The Elder Council- Quest Not Working? *spoilers*

Post » Tue Jan 25, 2011 1:48 pm

Yeah so I'm in the quest where General Mede and General Eddar or whatever his name is, are going to fight over whos gets to be the Emperor. But the thing is I get to Weye, Mede and his troops show up and then the other guy and his troops. But Mede's stupid soldiers have to take out a torch no matter what and that messes up my game real bad since my game starts getting lag once all the troops show up but once the torches come out I can barely even do anything.

Well let's get to the point of this. Mede says something like "Get out of my way Eddar, I have to get to the Palace." But thats it, thats all that happens. Eddar never says anything back and they just stare at each other. I don't know if it has to do with how bad my game lags at this point or what. I've waited for a long time and nothing happened, I tried looking away and into the distance where my game wouldn't lag, again nothing happened. I did try to wait for awhile once I was looking away but Eddar never says anything back. I tried waiting and fast traveling to another location and traveling back and going inside the inn at Weye then coming back out but still nothing. I even got desperate enough to try to kill some of the soldiers using console commands so my game wouldn't lag but they just went unconcious. I feel like nothing is going to happen so is there something to fix this? I hate using them for things like this but is there a console command to skip to the battle or after? Or do I have to reinstall TEC mod? and if I have to do that, will my progress start off where it left?

Thanks and your help is greatly appreciated.

You probably should post at the author's forum. He does not frequent this one.

Make sure you have the latest version of TEC installed, then do as aellis suggested and ask at the mod author's forums, as he never visits these forums ever. Latest version of TEC is v2.4

EDIT
Looks like you're probably not going to be getting much help on the mod author's forums. Tell me exactly what the quest is called in your quest log, and quote an extract from the latest quest log entry for the quest so that I know which quest you're doing and where you're at. I'll see if I can work out what's supposed to happen next. Also tell me which version of TEC you're using too.

I am using the most recent version so there is no problem there. Heres the quest and it's details word for word. This is exactly what it says in the game.

Empire Under Siege

"Both General Mede and General Olin have arrived at Weye, both men have their troops with them. This is going to be a bloody day for the Empire and I am sure innocents will be caught in fighting too once it starts. But I must not join the battle, I must stand back and observe. The winner of this fight is to be the next Emperor and getting on the wrong side of the new Emperor would be a big mistake."

And like I said nothing happenes. I was going to PM the modder or leave a comment on one of his videos on Youtube since he seems to be on that enough. I posted a comment and he responded in a couple minutes, I responded to that and again in a couple minutes he responded back. So it looks like he is on that frequently. And I thought it would be a bad idea to leave a comment on his forums since for some reason I had a feeling it would never be noticed so I came here since there's always people here to help.

Okay, well the quick answer since you suggested a console command is:

setstage TECEmpireUnderSiege 30

That will jump the quest forward to the next stage. However that may not be a wise move, since this will skip the fight, and also skip a section of the script controlling the quest, which could break it.

The following script would be missed:
First, from the end of the conversation which didn't occur
teceddarref.setav aggression 50Teceddartrooper01ref.setav aggression 50Teceddartrooper02ref.setav aggression 50Teceddartrooper03ref.setav aggression 50Teceddartrooper04ref.setav aggression 50Teceddartrooper05ref.setav aggression 50Teceddartrooper06ref.setav aggression 50teceddarref.setfactionrank TECTitusOpposingFactionEvil 1Teceddartrooper01ref.setfactionrank TECTitusOpposingFactionEvil 1Teceddartrooper02ref.setfactionrank TECTitusOpposingFactionEvil 1Teceddartrooper03ref.setfactionrank TECTitusOpposingFactionEvil 1Teceddartrooper04ref.setfactionrank TECTitusOpposingFactionEvil 1Teceddartrooper05ref.setfactionrank TECTitusOpposingFactionEvil 1Teceddartrooper06ref.setfactionrank TECTitusOpposingFactionEvil 1

Second, from the quest's controlling script after the fight is finished
tectitus01refa.StopCombat tectitustrooper01ref.StopCombat tectitustrooper02ref.StopCombat tectitustrooper03ref.StopCombat tectitustrooper04ref.StopCombat tectitustrooper05ref.StopCombat tectitustrooper06ref.StopCombat tectitus01refa.disableTECtitusthronerefa.enableOcatoRef.disableset initializingquest to 3

The problem is most likely that the two NPCs aren't close enough to each other, or that one of them is preoccupied with some irrelevant task, preventing the game from properly running the script command "tectitus01refa.StartConversation teceddarref" (which is the command instructing General Mede to start a conversation with General Eddar Olin).
Since General Mede has said his line, this suggests that General Eddar is the one distracted. You mentioned pulling out torches, could he have decided to do this instead of talking? What if you were to wait for daylight before triggering this conversation, so that no one produces a torch?

So have you solved the problem yet? Can this thread be forgotten about now?

Gotta love rampant and paranoid elitism. God forbid we mention his precious mod to ask for bloody help.

...and with multiple posts of how horrible being "vorians/display name is already in use" is for trying to help someone with his mods here...

Haha, yeah, I kept scrolling down, this guy is eccentric to the maximum.

EDIT: Buhahahahaha this is hilarious! This guy is like a cyber mobster. He has all these little guild master minions licking his boots and telling him how awesome he is simply because they want to play his mod and don't want to get a 2 page long rant on how lame they are!

Hilarious indeed.

Anyway, I hope display name helped you fix your problem.

Meh, if I want something related to his material, I'll grab it from the DC people. Not that Giskard's thing worked period for me. Maybe I'll have more luck with people who are willing to give support to everyone.

Edit: I'm especially a fan of that Miss Wilde enforcer of his. Tossing some poor sap in the 'sin-bin' for daring to speak out against the Lord and Master for his reactionary stance on this. I dunno the big history behind this chap, but if you make mods, generally you accept that it's free for everyone to use, even if some would use it for their own ends. Why restrict everyone based off the actions of the few? May this place never become that elitist.

Edit edit: I see that he reinstated access for everyone. Step in the right direction, but it's still laced with the same mish-mosh of 'all-of-the-above.' You gotta respect the modding work he's done, but to be that elitist just rubs me the wrong way. Anyway, I'll stop clodding this up with opinions now.
