I Need Some Help Getting My Game To Work :(

Yeah, so I finished getting all my stuff installed and ordered (using BOSS)... but I'm getting a CTD when starting a new game, right after the video.
It's a fresh install, so no savegames there.
If I recall correctly, the character editor comes first, so I thought it must be something there. Since that Race Balancing Project probably has the greatest impact I tried disabling it. Unfortunately, if I do that, the game crashes right away after start up, so I'm not even getting to the menu. :/
At that point I decided I probably need some experienced help, so here I am.

Your load order needs work. For one, you need to manually reposition those mods hanging after the bashed patch. They do not belong there. Now for more anolysis...

Edit: Load order issues...

Natural Weather: Choose one weather plugin!! You have the regular and RD versions installed now.
Tamriel Travelers: Choose one TTItemsXXX plugin (in addition to the TTItemsCobl ESP.) You have the "Vendor" and "NPC" versions loaded now.
Better Cities: There is a B&M Full version of the Bravil Barrow fields patch. Check for FULL versions of other BC+UL patches as well.
Vaults of Cyrodiil: BC's Vaults of Cyrodiil plugin is a replacer, so get rid of the Vaults of Cyrodiil (regular) ESP.

Read the BOSS LOG file!! It gives a lot of compatibility information, and information about patches. Your problem sounds like missing or incorrectly organized masters. Since your load order has been organized by BOSS, I would guess that the former is your problem. Look for a missing master among your plugins. Those mods have red check boxes in Wrye Bash. Remember to rebuild your bashed patch after making changes to your load order. You would not get to the main menu after disabling the RBP if you either did not also remover the rest of the RBP modules or rebuild your bashed patch after uninstalling RBP.

I assume that Argonian hair mod changes the Argonian race. Make sure it has a "hair" bash tag, import it, and then disable it in your load list. RBP is just overriding it, so there is no point in its being active.

Natural Weather: I realized that after scanning my post, seems I forgot to delete the .esp and it got activated again.
Tamriel Travellers: So I can't use both, good to know, thanks.
Regarding BC+UL: Thanks, I did some searches at TESNexus, but couldn't find any patches, so I assumed there aren't any. I'll have a look at that again.

After some quick tweaking the problem still persists... the main reason for me posting here was actually that there are no red boxes at Wrye Bash, so really no help from there. :(
I guess I'll have to try to get rid of the RBP again and maybe take a more thorough look at the BOSS Log, though I checked most entries.

The patches I am referring to are included in Better Cities. For example, when you install the Bravil Barrow fields patch, the plugin installed should contain "FULL," "B&M" and "bravil barrowfields" of course. I think there is a FULL version of the Cheydinhal falls patch, but my memory is fuzzy on the install. Plus, I use BAIN.

Edit: If you installed with the OMOD installation script, it should have installed the right plugin. The "FULL" part I might be making up in my tired head, but you should definitely have the B&M version of the Bravil Barrowfields patch.

Yeah, I used the OMOD. I'm going to check that again some time, just in case.
Seems my former problem with deactivating RBP was that one .esp didn't get deactivated, screwing the whole thing up. But even after doing it right I still get CTD, so RBP is not the culprit. :)
Now, I really can't think of anything I have which could screw up the tutorial.. quite annoying, especially since Bash is happily showing green all the way. I'll have another look tomorrow... or maybe set everyting up anew.. happy times.

Do you have the latest version of OBSE installed? That and not rebuilding the bashed patch after load order changes can always guarantee a crash.

I'm actually quite a bit pissed right now, because I installed everything anew, just the official stuff so far: Oblivion + DLC. And it's not even starting, there's a CTD right away, even when loading just vanilla Oblivion.
Seems like it has nothing to do with those mods, though the problem yesterday was another one. Anyways, I guess I'll have to install it on my desktop PC in two weeks. Or after finishing Fallout 3.

I cannot imagine playing Oblivion on anything other than my desktop. Well, always remember to install the latest official patch. Hardware can limit play as well though.

My Laptop is actually just a little bit inferior to my desktop. :) And since I'm spending a few months per year during university break at my parent's it wouldn't do to carry the desktop with me. :D
The game not working was a dumb fault of mine - I didn't delete the modded .ini. ;) I'm now at setting it up anew, step by step, making sure to install in the right order (though I'm not sure what that is, I'll basically install OOO first and then the rest, UL, BC and similar mods last), checking up if it works after each step. That's quite some work, but at least I'll reduce the chance of screwing up.

Could you post your load order with Wrye Bash? Right-click on the "File" tab, and choose the "List Mods" function. (It copies the list for you.)

A few questions:

#1 Where is your bashed patch?

#2 Is Frostcrag Reborn compatible with the unofficial official mods patch for DLCFrostcrag?

#3 Does Wrye Bash show any mods with red or yellow check boxes?

#4 Have you tried regenerating your INI file?


Suggestions:

#1 You should be using the B&M version of the Better Cities FULL version of the Bravil Barrowfields patch. I think I am going to ask in the BC thread about this because I have seen a number of load orders with B&M that do not have the patch indicating the B&M setup. (Maybe the script renames the plugin..That should not be crashing your game. Do not worry about it. I am just being anol.)

#2 Switch IWR for AWLS. Trust me, the latter is much more optimized.

#3 I do not know how many times I have given the spiel about Natural Environments, so I will just give you a link to one of my earlier posts: http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1083199-martigens-monster-mod-ooo/. (It looks like I ranted about IWR here too...)

#1 Just not activated, I'm not quite sure how to proceed there. I just built a patch checking all the boxes, if I activate that one I get those CTD.

#2 Uh, no idea, why? I don't use Frostcrag reborn.

#3 No, everythings green, like the first time I set the game up. I didn't try deactivating the Bashed Patch there, but I guess that was the reason for those CTD, too.

#4 Hmm, no. I didn't think about that, since I just installed everything.

Next:

#1 Alright, the OMOD installed did it. ;)

#2 Will look into that.

Oops, I mixed up this thread with another one. This is not the one with the Frostcrag Reborne issue, sorry about that. The bashed patch should not cause a CTD unless it is configured incorrectly. Go through it and look at what is checked. Actually, I guess you do not need it in your load order, but having a crash causing bashed patch is not good.

So to be sure, I just check all those boxes, build the patch and afterwards deactivate all the .esp which are merged (indicated by the + at their boxes), right?

I just got AWLS and Enhanced Vegetation. Haven't got the B&M UL patch so far, since I only have the OMOD... not quite in the mood to look for a manual install archive. :D

Most UL patches are just an esp - easy installation and removal.

There's a mod that's not compatible with bookplacing, though I can't recall which off the top of my head - BOSS would say if you had it. Personally, I'd go with Auto Book Placer - it's one esp, and it does a lot more.

A missing master would crash the game at startup, not after the main menu.

Yes, you should deactivate mods whose names are green. Nothing bad will happen if you don't, but it frees up space in your load order.

Other than that, I couldn't say. I've noticed, from my own problems, that sometimes it's not in the load order, or it's not something that can be derived from simply looking at the load order. It could be missing or incorrect bash tags, a screwy ini file, or something else entirely. I know, that's not very helpful, but it's the best I can do right now. :)

Before getting on really on topic, sometimes the INI files gets messed up with just Vanilla Oblivion. Weird stuff happens, so trying out the INI fresh is always worth it. You may want to keep a backup before generating the new one if you made a bunch of changes though. Moving on, you probably should not check ALL of the boxes. Well, if you only mean in the "merge" section, then that is okay. In the leveled lists section, remember to hit "auto" and let it refresh. Most of the import sections are fine, except for relations and factions. I think you're okay with the MMM+OOO setup to check everything. The most bothersome section is usually import cells. Hopefully, all of your mods are tagged appropriately and you do not have to worry about it. I'm just saying, think about those little checks as you click the boxes. Sometimes the modders or BOSS list authors make mistakes, and sometimes there are simply "exceptions" when using certain groups of mods together.

Now that I have that off my chest, is this setup now working for you?

Now at least it doesn't crash, which is nice. ;)

I installed some of your recommended mods, from reading the description I'm not sure if I'm going to be satisfied with Auto Book Placer, but I decided to give it a try. I also got the proper B&M patch. I thought I accidentally deleted the BC archives after creating the OMOD, but that was another mod.

So thanks a lot for your help and patience! :)

If the Auto Book Placer does not work for you, try the Decorator Assistant. What mod do you have that is incompatible with Book Placing?

Only my Dunmer has quite the blueish skin (body) and I have all those extra races, hair and eyes. I wonder where those come from, since I didn't install the COBL extra races and thought it's the only mod which adds races. Well, it doesn't hurt, only the blueish skin needs to change to Dunmer skin. ;)

Are you using RBP or COBL races. In either case, I do not think that they replace textures for the Vanilla races.

The races are added by RBP, I mixed it up and thought these are optional. No problem though.

I'm now trying to find the mod changing the textures. My guy also has a muscular body and I didn't install any body mod.

Edit: I'm feeling a bit silly with my endless problems. :D Anyways, no idea where the blue skin came from. When loading my char he still had it, even after disabling those mods which could have changed it, but when starting a new game the new Dunmer has the proper texture. Even after enabling everything. So I'll just create my character anew.
