The Planar Tavern

Post » Wed Jan 26, 2011 2:54 am

The Planar Tavern, a place reachable through magical means, supernatural gates, and all types of things... It is linked to multiple worlds of multiple places and is to be considered neutral grounds to everyone that enters...

The owner of this fine establishment is a perverted Goblin who finds nearly everything attractive by the name of Gratch. He was the original creator of the tavern when he created this realm of existence, and controls every aspect of it. He owns a staff twice his size with an orange stone that seems to hover in circles around whoever holds the staff... He seems to find it funny to open gates up everywhere leading to his realm...

The realm is fueled by a collosal soul gem containing the souls of over 1000 necromancers and priests, and it is said that whoever holds this gem controls the realm...

Gratch though is a goblin of mystery and it is unlikely one would be able to find this gem, even if it is 3x the size of a whale...

Scenery

The Tavern changes on a daily basis but usually features a room that is larger then life, laden with silver, gold, and flawless gems.

A room with a well full of blood, and an altar with a sleeping body (that changes race day to day) on it.

A room that looks like it's outside, including friendly wildlife, flora, and the whole nine yards?

A room that seems to radiate with a holy aura as if blessed by the divine.

A dancing hall with a switch that changes the mood. (for instance, one time, it may make the room candle-lit with roses and such, suddenly you pull it again and strobe lights go off with zombies coming towards you!)

Outside, the area around the tavern can be seen. It is rather simple with a small flower bed in one area, and a stall full of winged horses in another. The view if beautiful, and extremely romantic as long as you don't fall off the little sky island!

Geography

Outside the tavern is a huge universe. It features the provinces: Sacrol, Tortsentine, Nama Wood, Solarian, and Twilanica. (( http://i405.photobucket.com/albums/pp139/Gatalis/gatalissmap-1-1.jpg )) The tavern is set in the center of the map, 30,000 ft. above the ground. The only way down is either a slow fall spell or the teleportation stones that can be bought which lead to the main city of each area, and teleportation back to the tavern.

Sacrol (Sack-roll) is a dangerous place. The swamps of Sacrol are filled with deadly poisons and fierce predators. It is infamous for its rare (poisonous) birds, (intelligent) swamp goblins, and moon rats. 90% of Sacrol is a giant swamp, the other 10% are spots scattered through the swamps known to be deserts as all forms of moisture seem to ignore these spots?

The swamp goblins rule the major city of Sacrol, venenum nemorosus. (poison covered with trees) It is a strange city, the whole place is covered in trees and they feed on a liquid. This liquid seems to be poisonous and everything other then the trees that drink it die a slow and painful death. As soon as the drink it though, they become powerful and cannot be hurt though, and so, brave warriors of the goblin tribes will drink this poison as a last attempt to defeat their enemies?

Tortsentine (Tort-sen-tine) is a city ruled completely by sentient beings. The whole place is an industrial wasteland, but is surprisingly violence-free? Those without special magical filters will die if they approach these lands from all toxic gasses. These filters can be bought from Gratch at ridiculous prices? (one that lasts for a few mere hours cost about as much as a house in Bruma!)

Not much is know about Tortsentine other then that it is ruled by a sentient race known as golems? These golems come in a variety of sizes, colors, metals, and shapes, but all take on a humanoid appearance and are extremely powerful. Taking on a golem is like taking on a boulder falling off a mountain right at you. Luckily, they are extremely gentle due to the lack of interference of the other places.

The major city of Tortsentine is known as the "great factory." The great factory is a large indoor city ruled by a Golem made of a prismatic metal. Inside this building filters degenerate at nearly 30x their normal rate, and as such, only the richest of the rich can enter without fear of death?

Solarian (Solar-ian) is the land of the minds?

Everything here seems to have the ability to telepathically speak, even the weapons and flowers born/made here can speak to people! Half the region is grey, the other half is vibrant and full of color.

There are too many species here to count as the mere thought of a creature can bring it into existence!

The capitol city of Solarian is called "the brain?" It is surrounded by a strange gel that seems to make the city invisible to the weak minded. Those who can comprehend this illusion though will find that it is passable and that the city is actually a giant outdoor library and the gel simply protects the books from harm.

Nama (nah-mah) Wood, or, the wild lands, is the perfect place for free spirits and the like, and is surrounded by a barrier that prevents beings of evil or lawful intent from entering.

Animals and beasts of many shapes and sizes inhabit Nama Wood, some are friendly, others despise the "skinned" races. (imperials, nords, etc. not including Argonian and Khajjit of course!)

There are no settlements in Nama Wood, families instead live in natural homes such as caves and trees.

The "capitol" of Nama Wood is somewhere east of the center of the area. A place with trees as wide as buildings. It is said at the very center is a tree that takes nearly a week to walk around!

Twilanica (Twil-ann-i-kah) Is the town of the fey. It is infested with fairies, though small they posses great amounts of magicka. They are so well versed in magicka in fact, that a fairy of their own mage guild could take on the arch-mage of Cyrodiil!

Only two creatures live in Twilanica, the fey, and dragons? While the fey may be masters of magicka, they stay as far away as possible from the caves that dot their lands, which are filled with the fire breathing menace?

The fey refuse to teach outsiders how they became so well versed in what they do, but it is rumored that they draw their power from a magical rod of great power inside the castle.

The castle of Twilanica is considered the capitol of the fairy's lands. It is known by the natives as diamante fulgeo palazzo. (diamond beam palace) Here, the greatest mages train, and when they are considered to have mastered their art, they may step into the green beam of light that shines out of the palace, never to be seen again. Most believe the beam is a magic that destroys the body, while others believe it is a portal to a universe of pure magicka?

Entrance

You walk into the tavern, who knows how you got there, portals, doors, magical items, but you are here? As you walk inside, you notice a cracked mirror reflecting eyes at you, but as they don't perceive you as a threat, they avert their attention back to everyone. A single eye follows you? They seem to be separate since they stare at multiple things, but how is this possible in a reflection of a single thing?

The ceiling of the tavern seems to be a night sky filled with stars and patterns, and you notice species and creatures you have never seen before?

As you continue to progress into the tavern, a giant spike comes out of the floor and a letter is attached to it. Opening the letter you find a paper which seems to adjust itself so that it is in the same language you can read?

It reads?

Welcome to the planar tavern, you are in a world beyond comprehension, a world of magical wonders! Feel free to explore, or have a chat with others who have stumbled upon this world. Speak to the goblin behind the counter if you wish to explore the lands themselves. He also serves drinks!

Rules of the tavern:

1. Don't steal, this will lead to immediate disintegration? The eyes are watching you know? Suddenly you hear a scream, as you turn around, you see a pile of ashes on the ground and a apple on top of them, a single eye seems to be glaring at the pile of ashes as smoke comes off of it

2. Respect my patrons? The eyes are watching you know? You suddenly hear someone scream "you filthy dun?" but before they can finish, they find that their mouth comes right off of them somehow and throws itself into the nearby fire? An eye glares at it as smoke comes off of it.

3. Violence is permitted out back, and out back only? The eyes are watching you know... A dunmer suddenly goes to punch the person who said it, but before they can, a ray shoots out at them and they disappear, screaming can be heard outside followed by a loud thud? The eye seems to glare out a window, smoke coming off of it?

4. Preform your vulgar needs somewhere away from my tavern or You'll figure out what it truly means to be caught in the act! "Attention my customers, it seems a dark elf and breton are breaking rule number four, feel free to go upstairs to room number thirty four and watch, and if you feel like it, join in!"

5. Trying to search for the power source of my experiment will lead to a fate worse then death. Unless you ask for permission to do so, in which case it's perfectly fine! The eyes aren't watching you though, some freak is! You notice out of the corner of your eye a deformed figure disappear as it heads upstairs?

[i] Enjoy your stay at the Planar Tavern, and try to follow these rules!

OOC:

One liners are allowed, but don't make them a habit.

Try to use proper grammar and spelling, I suggest Microsoft word and Microsoft works word processor.

Limit yourself on your number of characters? Its ok to have 2, maybe 3, but any more then that and you're just pushing it?

No god mode

Respect fellow RPers

You are allowed to have special characters if they fit the RP. (A frog-man, scamp, or fire atronach of limited intelligence would fit the RP, an all powerful being or vampire/werewolf wouldn't?)

This is your chance to have a race you created and stuff like that, take up the opportunity and experiment with it to see if others like it!

You can see through things such as lies and spells and invisibility and such if you own the appropriate gems. The gems will be bought from Gratch, and using the gems will not be considered playing god since all gems will have to be approved.

I may be playing the ruler of this world, (Gratch) but he won't be involved in anything other then dialogue. Attacking him (since he rarely goes outside) will be violating the tavern rules, and you already know what that does? At the same time, the same thing can happen to anyone who attacks someone, so it's perfectly legal!

That being said, he'll buy anything, sell anything he buys, (at double the price usually) and one can feel safe and cozy in the tavern.

Character sheet: Try and follow this? I'll use Gratch as an example.

Name/Nickname: Gratch
Race: Goblin outcast

Skills/Abilities: (custom or real skills/abilities)
Transmutation (the ability to change oneself, or others, into a different creature, animal, etc.)
Mysticism
Destruction
Tongues (the ability to understand other languages)
Mercantile
Swift casting (the ability to cast spells in the blink of an eye)
Dimensional traveling (basically like a teleport spell he can use to travel on foot a good distance in mere seconds in the real world)

General appearance: His left arm seems to be missing the flesh and such, and is only bone? Other then that he looks like a goblin that takes the occasional bath and wears robes.

Other: don't mess with the goblin that isn't doing anything to you? He's for RP only and won't cause you any physical harm. (also, who else are you going to buy rare items from?)

I plan to send an old friend of his out with the others when they finally start adventuring.

By the way, I need to edit this since word processor can be a b**** and exclude punctuation and such...

EDIT: Ehh... what's that Zal? How'd it become a mess? People can learn from past mistakes... (and I can't seem to find it anywhere...)

Whales vary in size. If I'm not mistaken, there is a kind that is only 3 feet long.

 Free form tavern RPs can be decent, but rarely are. This one seems... interesting, to say the least, although not at all lore friendly. Not my cup of tea, but I'm not going to tell you not to do it

It was evident he meant a large whale. Don't spam the thread. Constructive responses or questions please. So generally speaking, what would I be doing here?

Basically, the tavern is a place to chill out and have some casual RPing going down, or if you want, create a plot and go on an adventure. It's a place for players to test out things, (such as an elven mage they might want to use elsewhere, or a nord who eats nails for breakfast without any milk.) and at the same time a place for people new to the RPing thing to have some fun in a calm enviroment where they can post short posts and work their way up to full paragraphs and such.

I have only tried this idea once or twice, but it got one or two people intrested in RPing and it kept people entertained while they waited for their more advanced RP topics to have new posts. It all depends on the individual's creativity and intrest in what's going on though.

To me this looks like The accursed "Drunken Dragon" set in some random world that isn't remotely related to TES.

This could work if you make it in Tamriel (I'm suggesting in the city of the Arcane University, as a tavern floating above it) Only the normal 10 races, only skills from Morrowind or Oblivion or Daggerfall. Simple, it could work. Do not expect it to work, it is 50/50.
