Oblivion mods BGS should take note of.

Post » Wed Jan 26, 2011 1:11 pm

So reading through some of these thread I notice that a lot of the complaints with Oblivion were fixed with mods. That's not to say that those complaints aren't valid. But it does show how Oblivion could have been a much better game with some fairly simple fixes. Of course we would love for many of these fixes to be carried over to Skyrim. So what "mods" would you have included in Skyrim by default?

Here's my short list:
Harvest Flora - Makes the plants you collect visually change in appearance so that you know you've collected them.
Natural Magic Skills Increases - Makes your magic skills level based around how much magicka the spells use.
Lem Bounty Reduction Over Gametime - My own fix. Reduces the player's bounty slowly over time.
Toggle-able Quantity Prompt - Makes selling, buying, dropping and picking up much easier by eliminating the quantity prompt.
Smarter Mercantile Leveling - Makes mercantile level based on the value of the items sold.
Enhanced Hotkeys - Increases the number of hotkeys from 8 to 40+ and gives them advanced controls like cycling and auto-casting.

Of course with some of the fundamental changes in Skyrim many of these fixes won't be applicable (different skills, may not have mercantile) but they atleast show how things should be improved.

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=9333 - allows you to de-nock your arrow, saving it if you decide you don't want to fire your bow after you've pulled back the draw string.
http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=3409 - all keys are placed on this. You can open it up and extract keys if you want. Otherwise, they are all "hidden" inside the keychain, freeing up visual space in your inventory. The keys on the chain will still open chests and doors automatically. Fliggerty made a similar mod for Morrowind, called the KeyRing.
http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=3979 - containers will visibly open when you open them. They will close up again when you close them.

http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=mods.detail&id=175 - makes healthy creatures not attack you straight away.
http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=34199 - look outside through windows and actually see (a representation of) the outside.
http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=10403 - makes soulgems appear as their Morrowind versions instead of the drab crystals.
http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=23150 - adds greater variety of weaponry.

Just a couple that I could think of from the top of my head :)

Those. Especially Immersive interiors and Passive Healty Wildlife.

But also:
http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=4520 - Adds back Morrowind style travel, including: Mage Guild Guides, Ships, Horse Carriage, Divine Intervention and Mark and Recall.
http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=9544 - Makes enchanted weapons restore their charges over a period of time like Morrowind.

This one doesn't make sense. A bounty shouldn't decrease over time. If anything it should go UP. The longer the PC has a bounty on them the more it should go up and the more aggressive guards should be. This would provide incentive to the PC to actually DO something about the bounty. If I kill someone and get a large bounty on me why bother worrying about it if its just gonna disappear over time.

It goes down very slowly. If you murder someone you have to hang out in the woods for a week before you can show your face again. If you steal something and get caught you can just avoid the guards for a few hours and they will forget about the whole thing. It's no less realistic than paying someone to have your bounty magically disappear.

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=4854 - Because why would the benevolent Gods refuse to help because you made some bad choices?
http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=9544 - Morrowind's system was just better. I don't want to spend 500 gold every 5 times I swing my sword.
http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=6021 - For the interior decorator in all of us.
http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=11495 - Not this exactly, but a way to skip the tutorial if possible.

This is basically what every "What do you want in Skyrim" thread should be like lol. If we want it, chances are there is a mod for it.

Also to the OP I love your mod and use it all the time. Good work.

Since they're going HUD-less for this game, I'd love to see that Immersive Health mod that turned the screen somewhat greyscale when you got low on health. That and Shield Bashing from Deadly Reflex!

What. No. Please tell me that's a bad joke, or there'll be an option to turn on a HUD.

Shield Bashing is already confirmed, but the grayscale isn't a half bad idea. One I forgot:

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=10763 - Because I don't know what you are doing with this "iTunes" look idea, but it is terrible. Only being able to see what, 5 Skills at once? Why? Just make it exactly like Oblivion with Darnified UI, and just bring up the perk map over the right side of the screen (where you see the character) when you are in the skill menu. You only need to look at the character when you are in the inventory anyways.

@Lokee: I believe they said it is toggle-able.

phew, because that nearly gave me a heart attack.

In regards to mods,
http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=36370 This isn't quite a mod, but still the script editor is WOEFULLY out of date in Oblivion's CS.

Most of mine have already been posted. So I've only got these two:

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=24312 - They look like real horses and they have bridles. What's up with vanilla OB, your character's hand looks like he/she is holding a bridle, but there is nothing there? And who doesn't like a nice looking ride?

http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=OblivionMods.Detail&id=1701 - Lowers the fee to have an NPC recharge your enchanted weapon to be closer to what it would be if you did it yourself with soul gems. I hated having to spend my life fortune just to recharge.

Edit: I'd like to add that there have been a million mods that add prices to the $0 clutter items. Please for immersion sake don't give us $0 clutter items.
