Fallout Multiplayer Discussion Thread

You're going to find a lot of people deeply hate the idea of multiplayer in a Bethesda RPG and I am one of them. There are so many MMO and Co-Op games right now that it is already getting harder to find good single-player RPGs .
I love multiplayer in certain games ~just not in all games.

For me, it matters not that its a game by Bethesda, but that it is a :fallout: game; I'd oppose Multi-player Fallout (specific) even if Black Isle arose out of the ashes and bought out Bethesda to resume it's own Fallout 3, 4 & 5.

Please read before judging.

I know we've all had times where a friend has trouble and you have to guide them through the process of doing whatever they are attempting to do, but my idea is:

Co-Op multiplayer mode in Fallout: New Vegas.
- No quests avaliable
- Only 2 people allowed (You and another player)
- Be over PSN or Xbox Live/ Whatever Windows uses.
- Just roaming around, exploring and killing things. Example: A friend needs a weapon, and you can show him/her where it is.
- Or just simply being able to send your friends things through the game at a cost.

Basically, it's the same old wasteland, just no quests (unless you want to designate Co-Op quests just for it) and Only 2 people.

Think about it.

id say multiplayer is a big no-no really tbh. reasons being if you have a hunt and destroy mission with all your equipment (im sure most players want to kill each other here) is thats the problem you could have a higher level player killing lower level players using a fat man and they also have lower health so you see the problem. another thing is that coop missions would be good and all but most games have that now so they would have to think of suthing different like say a enclave v brotherhood online war. so say a player chooses the factions and each team does missions and fights against each other.

well what if multiplayer was somthing you could only do with another person that you have to start with and can only play with if you both arre playing and you both start at same level. you could have same map and people as for example new vegas or fallout 3 but with differnt quest and mabe differnt story line but only proplem is this would be more work for a company or bethesda or obsidian

personally what i think would be cool is a cooperative MP in the fallout games that would allow you to team up with up to 3 people you and two friends. this would be interesting because then you could invite your friend in to come see your house or to trade armor/weapons or what ever then go explore together. this would add a social aspect to fallout only rivaled by fable 2 (not very popular) this would also remove people having problems getting from one part to the other. just invite your friend and team up to run a heist, eliminate a city or fight your way through the mutant infested downtown. this style of multiplayer molds seamlessly into a single player game like fallout 3/4/5/6 etc. so that bethesda can work on the single player but allow people to play together. :fallout: :nuke: :gun:

It has nothing to do with Bethesda. If you wish to discuss it you will need to register and go to their site.

Even if this was being published by Bethesda the first post makes it clear that this thread isn't for discussing MMOs of any sort.

I personally don't think that Fallout 3 is the right platform for multiplayer. You are called the LONE Wanderer for a reason, although I do have to admit that the thought of an MMO/RPG does somewhat enthrall me. The whole co-op thing though... I'm gonna have to pass.

I have an idea for an online multiplayer campaign, You start off as a baby in the vault (the story is different) then Player 1's dad leaves. Players 2-4 help Player one escape the Vault then the story line all over again.. For MULTIPLAYER online there should be different game modes like Brotherin (Two teams, Enclave and Brotherhood) and there's maps (GNR, National Guard Depot, Metro) and if you have the DLC's there's extra online maps (Steelyard, Anchorage, AAFB Hangar, Cryo Labs, Underground Lab), and you can find schematics on maps (To eveolve weapons into unique weapons) The level cap online is 20. Also at certain ranks you get armors

Why don't we run this across the SA-MP team? They have experience taking an SP-only game and making an absolutely kickass MP mod for it. SA-MP supports up to 200 players last time I played, and I was hearing rumors of 500 player servers, all without any significant lag. I get more lag from a full TF2 server than I do a full SA-MP server. If anyone is going to make Fallout a multiplayer experience I think they're the ones to call It might even be easier for them since it's easier to mod Fallout than San Andreas.. They don't need to unpack things and try to figure out what does what, they can just open up the Geck and go nuts.

also I don't think it would work if it was any sort of TDM. A co-op mode would work nicely, though. And maybe even the Enclave and BoS troops on such missions aren't AI?

I would vote for a multiplayer but, the single ones is what seems to be selling. Getting rid of Vats wouldn't be so bad. It is rather overpowering at times and takes up extra time too.

GTA:SA was originally developed with multiplayer in mind but this feature was later cut. This meant that much of the existing coding was done with multiplayer in mind and there were plenty of hooks there to add it later.

The Oblivion/Fallout 3 engine was streamlined for single player so not only are those hooks nonexistant but the core game isn't developed to handle multiple people. For something like scripting this could be very difficult to fix since quests and global variables don't need to take multiplayer players in to account.

Someone made a multiplayer mod for Morrowind which was quite cool (and an incredible feat) and they did this by giving the second player control of an NPC so the scripts still only had to deal with one PC. I know there has been pvssyr about multiplayer mods for Oblivion and FO3 but I don't know if a working mod (even a beta) has been released to the public.

It's a bit early but I don't want to direct people to a thread which is going to be locked in a dozen posts. The new thread can be found http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1112031-fallout-multiplayer-discussion-thread/.
