Brink Video Interview: A City Stranded

Post » Wed Jan 26, 2011 2:03 pm

At Bethesda Softworks' recent spring showcase event in New York City, I had the opportunity to talk about Brink with Paul Wedgwood, Splash Damage CEO and game designer. During 'Part 1' of our extensive conversation, we cover Brink's unique blend of off and online gameplay, parkour-style S.M.A.R.T. system, and overarching narrative. In 'Part 2,' we chat about Brink's four character classes, dynamic objectives, "selfish" teamwork, distinct audiovisual presentation and more.

I hope you enjoy the interview (and accompanying gameplay)!

The audio part won be back,I hate fake or weak sounding guns in games. Black had an epic weapon sound design,no more spoon hitting a tin can SMG's like COD has. You have to actually go into the field and record gun sounds, and thats what SD did! Good on ya guys.

Try following the link to the HD version and watching it on YouTube.

Definitely not, that footage sounds like it'd be sweet. When I was editing the video, I wished I somehow magically had the footage to share with you all -- but, of course, I do not.

making a new game with literally thousands of people screaming i WANT 2 pay 60 dollars for this on his Dad's b-day, i'd say he's at least content. though i can't agree enough lol, huge hopes on Brink seems like all met, every time i play a game im thinking "man if i could make a game i'd have it like this, this and this, all those little effects everyone skips i'd go the extra mile to put in" < all hypothetical but you get the point super great work Mr. Wedgwood & Friends :goodjob: :mohawk:

You even have different sounds when aiming down the sounds. Security and resistance guns sound different, while having the same stats.

Wow, the way Paul looks into the camera in the beginning of the first video was ... scary! :o

  • "You don't see your feet and if we rendered them, they would be out of view most of the time anyway." - I prefer when shooters do actually render the full body of a character even in first person.

  • There are actually new bits of video material, I believe. Not very important, but nice to see.

The Ark was used for experiments before becoming a resort. Meanwhile kidnappings are on the rise.
