RELz: Ashlander Tent DX - NOM v3 Addon

Post » Thu Jan 27, 2011 6:43 pm

I have just released a new addon for my "Ashlander Tent DX" mod.
It adds full compatibility for the new version of "Necessities of Morrowind" to the tent.
(It should be used instead of the original NOM addon from the main package.)

It replaces the old, and somewhat ugly, grill mesh with a new one made by Taddeus.
(and adds some logs to the fire for decoration.) ;)

It also adds some of the new NOM items to the equipment chest.
It can be found here:

Enjoy! :D

I have already thanked you via pm, but I can't help doing so again in public. This is a great update, Gaius. Thank you so very much. NOM 3.0 has added a lot of fun to my game and this tent is the icing on the cake.

I'm sorry, Gaius. I'm afraid I have some bad news - at least bad for me. I can't seem to use the tent. I installed and then went up to meet the tentmaker and got him all the things he needed. A few days later, I got a note that the tent was ready and fairly flew back there to pick it up. All worked well until I tried to set up the tent.

When I first tried to set it up in the nearest flat place from the tentmaker, it set up, but there was no door and I could see through all sides except the one I was facing. So, I got out, checked the installation to make sure all meshes, etc were loaded proper and then tried changing my load order to set the tent close to the bottom.

Back in game, I tried again. This time, it setup the tent and then four more on top of it and about 1,000 tents in my inventory (until I jumped out of the game). So, I unchecked all but the basic tent esp. This time, I got as far as dropping the tent on the ground and the game crashed.

I know I'm doing something wrong, but I'm afraid I have no more ideas and this type of problem is something I've never experienced before so I have absolutely no idea how to fix it.

Odd, that's never happened before...
I haven't made any changes to the tent's internal scripts.
(If it ain't broke, don't fix it!) ;)

You shouldn't try to make more tents though... According to Aragon, that WILL mess up the scripts.
I tested the tent one last time, when I went to release the new NOM patch the other day.
Needless to say, there were no problems...

Perhaps your savefile is dirty... Have you tried cleaning it?
(Be sure to remove the tent from your inventory first, then go to another cell, and then save your game, before you do.)

Alternatively, try starting a new game, and use the console to get a tent.
Open the console, and type these commands to get the tent, and it's expansion, freely for testing purposes:
Player-> AddItem "_at_tent_placeholder" 1
set "_at_expansion" to 1

Like I said, I've never seen this glitch before, and I haven't recieved any other complaints.
I'll be happy to look into it again, though. (Just in case...)

Nope. Only got one tent. But, I think I see something important. When game was loading, I did get an error notifying me that "_at_tent_placeholder was not set", but I assumed that was because I hadn't been able to set it down yet.

I'll see if it works in a new game, though.

Ah... That should be it.
Just be cautious with the tent, and follow the instructions carefully.
You should have no more problems.

The tent uses very complex scripting, so the mod must be handled carefully...
Just be sure to save before moving the tent, and be careful while placing it.

One more thing to remember... Whenever you leave the tent, you will be facing north.
You may want to face south while placing the tent, so that whenever you exit the tent, you'll be facing away from it.
That way you won't accidentally click on the tent-flap again, and wind up having to exit the tent a second time.
(It won't cause any problems either way. It does get slightly annoying, though.)

OK. The tent worked perfectly with a new game, but I still couldn't get it work on my current game. So, I guess that means the mod and my load order and all are fine. Now, I just have to figure out why it won't work with the character I want to use (she's a mouth in Telvanni now and almost to the point of getting her stronghold. I hate to just start over).

I think if cleaning the save in Wyre Mash doesn't fix it, I'll try doing a clean save and then reloading the mod and see if that works.

By the way, is there any possibility it goes crazy if it's raining when I try to set it up?

It really shouldn't. I'll look into it, though.

Edit: Just finished testing it.
No, the rain doesn't seem to cause any problems...

Success!!! At least of a sort. Still don't know what the problem originally was, but by doing a clean save (unloading, saving somewhere else, reloading) and then using the console to get the tent back, it works perfectly.

And, by the way, it is a fabulous tent/home, too. Now, while I'm strolling around completing all those quests in the ashlands, grazelands, and whatever, I've got a perfect place to return to and cook dinner. This is just great. The only problem I've got now is I still get extremely hungry when I cook my meals in there. (Could be rough on the waist line.)

Thank you for all your help and for the work you did on the mod in the first place, Gaius. It's provided me with a lot of fun.

Great! I'm glad you like it! :celebration:

While I was testing though, I realized something about the new NOM patch.
1.) I included a Bread Shovel by accident. It isn't needed.
2.) I don't seem to have included a Rolling Pin. I meant to.

It looks like I may need to make a tiny update...
It's a very minor quibble, though. You'll probably have no need of it, personally.

Edit: And... It's done!
I've updated the "NOM v3" addon plugin.
I only did this to correct the abovementioned oversight.
There is no need for you to re-download it.
(Unless you are REALLY desperate for a free rolling pin, of course...) ;)

I guess I'll start work on the update to Agent's Solitude sometime tomorrow.

Nope. Don't need a new, free rolling pin, but while I was going in and out of the game just to make sure the tent stayed properly, I did discover something that might be of help to you. Even though the tent and everything inside that I've found and tested seem to work perfectly, I still get the following error when I start up Morrowind:

missing object "k_tent_marker" for reference during cell "Ashlander Tent" load . . .

I don't quite understand why I'm getting this as I did manually set the marker, I thought, by console when I finally got and was able to go inside the tent. And, as I said, it does seem to be working properly. (Though I haven't tried to move the tent once I got it working.) I added the k_at_tent esp from the kirel weather mod proper, as Wrye Mash said I was missing that master for the weather portion to work.

I loaded your dx esp, the kirel weather change, your latest NOM update and the Aragorn companion esp (though I have unticked the companion one so far). Perhaps I forgot something else of the older mod that I should have loaded?

Anyway, I am enjoying the mod so far and this is only a nagging worry when I start Morrowind.

If you're using the copy of Kirel's Interior Weather that is available on PES, than you have the same one I do.
I set the file to load in the proper order with it, so you shouldn't have any problems with that...
Certain types of script yield an "error" entry in the warnings log, without actually causing problems in-game. (This is one of them.)

If you're using Kirel's Interior Weather, them you may also want this: (If you don't have it already...)
"Replacement Sounds for Kirel's Interior Weather", by Gwilym.
Available here: http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=Mods.Detail&id=5770

Here's the description:
K_Weather is a wonderful thing. I couldn't play without it. However, as much as it improves the game's immersion, I thought its weather sounds could stand to be a little better.

These new ones aim to make weather heard indoors match what's happening outside more closely, and to better simulate the effect that shelter has on the sound of weather.

I recommend it for use with the 'louder sounds' version of k_weather, but that's up to you.

You also get a new Ghostfence sound.

It is a wonderful replacer for the interior weather sounds in Kirel's mod. I use it myself. ^_^
Since it's a direct file replacement, you can just copy/paste it over the old files. (Like a texture replacer.)
You won't need to start a new game to use this. It doesn't effect your savefile.

Return to III - Morrowind
