Custom created charecters

Post » Mon Jan 31, 2011 10:18 am

I was wondering too people take their time to create their character features...i mean like nose, eyes, mouth etc....

I was kinda curious to see how many actually did spend their time on that and wanted to know how their character really looked.. I started a brand new playthorugh from all the basics i learned form my previous game which was kind of a test + tutorial.

This is my character, took me quiet a while, but she'z gonna be an elf Archer xD

I spend aaaaages making my characters look right.

I spent well over an hour on Helena, about 20 minutes on Varesa (and I find Dunmer harder to do than Bretons. I think I went a bit overboard with Helena) and I'm still trying to make my female Nord look right. For her RP she needs to be spectacularly pretty, and by Kyne that's hard.

I spend 30min-2h making my characters' faces, and after that I never touch them again, though I know of some people who continue to tweak their character's facial features throughout the game. They wouldn't be the same if they didn't have their little flaws. :) Hair styles and colors I'll change throughout the game. Hair can change, faces can't. :P

My main two girls;

It's only possible on PC, using in-game console commands.
I, unfortunately, play on xbox so I can't help you any further than that, but I'm sure someone else can.

The console command is showracemenu. After you type that in and press enter, the race menu from the tutorial dungeon will show up.

IF YOU DO THIS DO NOT CLICK "DONE" AFTER FINISHED. That'll reset all your stats. What you have to do is save while you still have the race menu open, and load that save game.

Good looking Wood Elf Maddy21!

I usually spend about 20 - 30 minutes working on a new character's face at the start of a game. Then as I am playing I often go back and make adjustments, for at least another ten minutes worth of fiddling. I also sometimes download other characters to use their faces, but even with those I always spend about 10 - 20 minutes changing them.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v90/subrosa_florens/oblivion/Oblivion509.jpg is all mine, and like Aoywn, my second character as well. I was still learning a lot about using the sliders then.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v90/subrosa_florens/oblivion/Oblivion206.jpg is all mine. I was really happy with how she turned out. Especially after I changed her hair from http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v90/subrosa_florens/oblivion/Oblivion165.jpg to http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v90/subrosa_florens/oblivion/Oblivion227.jpg.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v90/subrosa_florens/oblivion/Oblivion320.jpg is all mine. I had gotten the knack of it by her.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v90/subrosa_florens/oblivion/Oblivion303.jpg was my first High Elf. She took a lot of work to get right.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v90/subrosa_florens/oblivion/Oblivion434.jpg was all mine, and had little adjustments from the base settings. I wanted a "girl next door" sort of look with her.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v90/subrosa_florens/oblivion/Oblivion471.jpg is a download, and only needed a few adjustments as well.
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v90/subrosa_florens/oblivion/Oblivion483.jpg started as a download, but of course I tweaked her a lot.

Your character is looking good! :goodjob:

My character was created before we started using mods and it took a long time and lots of patience. Here she is early in her career with no mods at all at the Gottshaw Inn: http://i668.photobucket.com/albums/vv43/Acadian6/Buffy%20I/ScreenShot78.jpg

Over time, we began using mods to help her look a little more fashionable - eyes, hair, skin textures. We have not changed the structure of her face. Here she is with a small number of basic cosmetic mods: http://i668.photobucket.com/albums/vv43/Acadian6/ScreenShot553.jpg

I can spend hours trying to get my character's face right. If it doesn't look right to me I have a hard time playing the character. Most of my characters are ugly, or odd looking in some way or another. I don't like making stunningly good looking characters, because in my mind that sets a certain RP aspect to them that I don't care for.

I don't know how to capture pictures off of the PS3, but my favorite "looking" character is my Dunmer Hunter. I wanted him to look as "elfy" as possible so I went with sharp features, big eyes and a very long and "elfy" nose. His nose sticks out of his hood :)

I adjust very few things because if you go crazy you will have a very odd looking character.

I adjust age first because I find it has the biggest impact on the character. Then I adjust tones, and possible the sad-happy slider on the mouth. Thats about it.

Don't get me started... I've spent probably half the time that I've owned the game trying to get Valiri's face right. I've tried several times and I've come up with some pretty good ones but I still haven't managed to make her look like in my head. Though I'm closer now than I ever have been before. I found a "how to" video of sorts on youtube that was of someone making a female bosmer face. While Valiri's face isn't anything like a bosmer's, it really gave me some good ideas. (concave jawline+small chin=WIN!)

You did a nice job with that face, Maddy21.

Here's some more reading on this subject: http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1130208-how-much-time-do-you-spend-on-the-face-editor/

Since we're posting faces, here's a few vanilla characters:

It always takes time for me to make a character. Not so long on PC though, because I can change it later.

I pretty much just keep hitting "random" until I get something I like. I don't get too much into the in-depth adjustments much at all.

I do try to, depends on the mood i'm in.
The worst feeling in the world though, is spending ages on getting a face so nearly perfect and then screwing it up with one last alteration.
It happens to me all the time - so I try to use already made faces/the random button/or don't make new characters at all.

Yes, this has happened to me too. Over the years I've fallen into the habit of saving regularly during face creation. I accumulate up to 15 to 20 saves per face, recording each step of the process. I go back to an earlier save if I feel I've screwed up. When I'm finished I simply delete all my preliminary "drafts." Saves are cheap. My time is expensive. ;)

You're very wise.
I thought of doing this about half way through face creation, but I disregarded it as 'too much effort', if only I could turn back time.

First, I would like to say hello since I'm new here :) and glad this forum is here.
I just started playing Oblivion last month and am addicted.

I was just thinking about this topic (creating) and saw this thread.

Was wondering if there is a way to add what looks like glasses and a long beard. I have this idea for a professor type that just loves cave and dungeon diving for cool stuff, but trying to get him to look like a goofy professor with wild hair is not working.

Welcome to the forums! Anyway a beard would require mods. You might want to ask over in the mod section.
