Want to get Oblivion for PC

TES:IV is my favorite game of all time! I have had it on the 360 since it has been released.
Now i want to get it for the PC to haave access to mods.

Would you recommend the PC version to someone if they already have it for 360?
If i do get it what kind of controller should i buy?
How do you work mods?
What mods are a must need / do you recommend?

I've been playing with mods pretty much since the release (off and on).

The mods make the game. Particularly if you can get a PC that is powerful enough. And have a fast enough internet connection for some of the larger mods.

I recommend two major mods: OOO and MMM. OOO makes a huge number of gameplay changes and tweaks. MMM adds a wide variety of monsters and other enemies. With those two mods it's like playing a new game.

Mods are free to download, and most are easy to install. You might need to just pay some attention to the load order. There are tools to help managing mods like the Oblivion Mod Manager.

If your computer is powerful enough then maybe also consider some of the retexturing mods like Quarl's 3 and Natural Environments.

And bunches of smaller tweaks and additions.

The mod forum is probably a better place to go into more detail on recommendations.

If you want to ask about your computer specs, the HW/SW forum is good for that.

EDIT:

and be aware, with OOO/MMM the game is quite a bit more difficult, particularly at lower levels

If you've just crawled out of a sewer, you might not want to venture deep into many dungeons.

Because level scaling is reduced. But then you have the satisfaction of going back at high levels into dungeons and mopping the floor with enemies that made your character soil his or her underwear at low levels.

mods are relatively easy just follow the instructions that the poster has
and if you liked Oblivion then I would recommend Nehrim, its doesn't take place in the Oblivion storyline, but it is the best mod out there
oh and be sure you have an awesome graphics card, becuase a lot of the mods will put a strain on your system

- Yes definitely; I played the vanilla game on the 360 for about a year, before upgrading my Pc and installing it there.
I'd never go back. :)

- I personally love the Mouse and Keyboard approach, but surely you can just use your 360 controller?

- There are plenty of instructions/guides for when you get to that stage. It's actually pretty easy as long as you stay organised and follow the help given.

What mods are a must need / do you recommend?
- I think after playing the 360 version for so long, it'd seem silly to grab it on the Pc and not get mods with it. They add so much to the game, and it's really why it's the best series ever (imo). You can make a great game almost perfect and there is just so much variety.

( A side note though, I do recommend that you make sure the Pc you are getting will be able to take the huge strain that both Oblivion alone, and even more so, modded oblivion puts on your Pc, I had to upgrade my Pc several times before it was properly stable with running such a large task. Don't regret it for a second though. ^_^ )

Two excellent character-levelling mods that do away with stat management, allowing the player to concentrate on roleplaying. Realistic Leveling tends to be the better mod for the more jack-of-all-trades characters or for characters that change during the course of a game. nGCD tends to be the better mod for characters that fit conventional Dungeon-and-Dragons archetypes and never deviate from that during the course of a game.

A fun little 'immersion' mod that allows the player to see their character use the same getting-into and getting-out-of bed animations used by NPCs.

Adds much-needed life to Cyrodiil's roads. The merchants are great if you like to spend extended time away from cities as I do. They also help fight, too, which has saved my character's life more than once when playing all these overhaul mods.

The way the cities of Tamriel should have looked. Spend hours wandering around like a tourist, awestruck at how different (and gorgeous) everything looks. Comes in modular form - you can choose to redo all of Cyrodiil's cities or just one. It's your choice. Wonderful for those of us who love to ride horses through town.

I tend to alternate these two mods, as I love them both. I absolutely and without equivocation adore Tamara's Weye mod - but it does come with a framerate hit. I just love her cramped medieval-looking alleys and its attention to detail. It is quite possibly my favorite town expansion mod for either Morrowind or Oblivion. The area occupied by dwip's mod is smaller and, thus, conflicts with fewer mods and also does not hurt framerates quite as much (in my experience). It comes with some interesting quests though and is also nicely-laid out.

Shezrie has been an excellent house modder since the days of Morrowind and her villages for Oblivion are Bethesda-quality in my opinion.

Yes, most definitely.

I would definitly recommend Oblivion for PC although make sure you get the right graphics card. I got it installed on my PC last night and it only takes like 3 to 5 seconds max to load an area up its sick. Plus the Mods but those are for later on after you get familar with the game and the software.
