Shorter VATS

Post » Wed Feb 02, 2011 1:52 pm

I just started playing F3, and I have a bit of a problem. When I use VATS to kill mobs I take a lot of dmg right after shooting. Eg. I was fighting 3 Super Mutants. Killed one with a head shot and his head poped off :D Then I spent about 5 sec watching it roll away. Very nice little feature, but during these 5 sec I was slashed to pices by the other 2 Super Mutants!
So my question is: Is there a way to shorten the VATS? Is there a way to stop VATS right after my last shot?

The entire VAT session is in slow motion and I don't think it's any way to short it down or abort it, however in VAT you have a very high defence so you take little damage compared to normal play, probably to balance that you can not move.
My main problem with VAT is that sometimes mostly then you have cover on your right side all the bullets hit the wall even if you had 95% chance for hit and the enemies can shoot back on you.

The Damage Resistance you get while in VATS is so high that I always thought I was invincible while in it. I just recently realized that it's about a 95% DR. But anyways, being slashed at and stuff isn't too big of a deal since you probably won't take any damage.

The only way that I can think of, would be to not string out more than three shots or bursts in VATS. Perhaps do it one at a time. When you enter VATS, you take less damage during the entire animation. As soon as you get out of VATS, you go back to taking normal damage. I tend to pause and take stock of the situation. I consider who the enemy is, what weapon they are holding, how close they are, and how big of a threat they are. In your situation I would have dealt with the guys up close and personal first, giving me a little time before the third closes. Using cover also helps with taking less damage. The only problem with this is that you might VATS something, fire, and hit your cover, thus wasting your AP. So, trying VATS one shot a time, would help in this situation, so you could save precious AP from being wasted shooting into your cover. Also, don't stay in one place too long, unless it's the ultimate cover and they can't flank you.

If you're on PC, you can try a mod like Fast Dramatic VATS. It includes an esp that reduces the time between your last VATS attack and when you get back to normal playing.

Thanks a lot! I'll try that mod documn.
Zaria, Verisco, you're right. I'm almost invincible when in VATS. It took me few hours of playing to notice that I wasn't taking so much damage during VATS.
Once again, thx for your help:D
