If Tamriel is the princedom of Lorkhan

"... And Dawn's Beauty, the princedom of Lorkhan; misnamed Tamriel by deluded mortals."

Why does Mehrunes Dagon claim it?

Maybe someone in the Lore section could help?

Well he thinks he is liberating Tamriel, and he would be the one to take it over since he is the prince of Change, Ambition, and Revolution.

Ask the lore people. But don't let them lose you in their long and boring speeches...

Later on, he says Tamriel is Dagon's birth right. Is it the same deal, that because he changes things he deserves it?

Sort of, but that speech has lore inconsistancies in it so its not a really a relible source. He claims that the Coldharbour of Meridia, Peryite's Quagmire, the ten Moonshadows of Mephala are their realms while its really Coldharbour to Molag Bal, Quagmire to Vaermina, and Moonshadow to Azura. So I doubt what he says are really true.

In the Nordic myths, specifically the http://www.imperial-library.info/obscure_text/aldudagga.shtml. Dagon was a leaper who got banished to Oblivion for stealing parts of the world from Alduin. He won't be able to become a Leaper demon untill he destroys all these stolen parts. Because Lorkhan was making the mortal plane out of these stolen parts, Dagon wishes to destroy the mortal world.

In Mankars own http://www.imperial-library.info/obbooks/mythic_dawn_commentaries.shtml tells that the Aedra who according to him were Lorkhans lieutenants rather then contributors to the mortal plane. Because they wanted to dispose of Lorkhan but the concept of Rebelgion didn't excist yet, they created Mehrunes Dagon the Prince of Revolution (amongst other things) from random parts they could find.

Both are similair in the sense that Mehrunes became what he is by the meddling of the Aedra and in both cases Mehrunes has a claim to Mundus. Either in executing the purpose of his creation or to return to what he once was.

Those were the mistakes of the devs and they slipped past quality control. They've apologized for that.

Mankar isn't all that wrong really and considering he has Mehrunes Dagon at his backing, he might be telling the truth. After all, everything we know comes from the Aedra and if they have been lying, we would have no way to tell.

But I thought he said the Magna Ge created Dagon?

Have they apologized for not fleshing out Cyrodiil's culture the way they did for Morrowind?

Which further makes one wonder why worshiping the Nine Divines is important, when they seem as dubious as the Tribunal.....

Magna Ge?
Those things does not want anything to do with the Mundus - they left it for a reason.

Not really the same thing - in this case they just forgot to proof check the planes and their owners, and assumed that MK had namned them correctly on the scetch of the speech.

Don't you want to go to Heaven? ;)

The stars. All Aedra that didn't die eventually left at the convention* and became the stars. Hence everybody in Cyrodiil believes they go to Aetherius when they die, that is where they saw the gods go.

*See Nu-Hatta and Faith in the Empire under Auri-El.

edit:

Ofcourse they don't go to Aetherius but back into the Dreamsleeve, but that's another discussion. Suffices to say that Arkay is the God of the Cycle of Life and Death. :)

What is left of them here comes across as rather benevolent. Atleast if you aren't at the business end of Pelinal's sword. :D

Dagon did not want to invade Tamriel and annex it to his own property, the Prince of Destruction was merely acting within his sphere. That is, trying to destroy all of Tamriel. Mehrunes Dagon is no more evil than Sheogorath is a banker.

That is what seems to escape most people (Actually, I blame the devs for that. Oblivion was a generic fantasy so...yeah).

Destruction is a necessary component for reality. Change is a form of destruction. When change occurs, the original form of the substance that is being "changed", is effectively destroyed.

I believe the concept of Rebellion was not so much directed against Lorkhan, as against his lieutenants who dominated his created after his world. That is why after Lorkhan's death, creation as he had envisioned hung by one thread, namely Mehrunes the Razor, who the Get had imbued with Oblivion's most precious and scarce asset: hope.
