How does Bethesda determine which features from the previous

Post » Fri Feb 04, 2011 4:22 pm

I've been told here that certain features of the brilliant original games were not popular enough to be included in FO 3 and FO NV. I am curious as to how Bethesda determines which features from the original games the FO fanbase does find popular and integral to an overall FO game experience. The opinions Bethesda seems to have about the franchise seem different then those found at FO fan-sites, other (non so censored) video game forums, all of my xbox friends from around the world, and everybody I've ever met in real life over the past decade or so. Maybe I'm just talking to the wrong people (but it seems odd that the FO community who has been keeping the game alive on the internet for a decade, releasing fan patches and whatnot would be the wrong people) so I would really like to know what amount of research does Bethesda put in to make sure the FO community is happy with their products. I've heard some people say Bethesda doesn't care about the original fanbase, that they are making games for people who didn't necessarily enjoy the first two games. Is that true?

I'm obviously not trolling or mentioning anything by name that I shouldn't so please discuss this with me instead of locking and deleting my thread within a matter of minutes thank you.

Is there a sequel for any game that has not pissed off some of the orginal game's fans?

Gaming companys that design only for the hardcoe, or rather, vocal fanbase release a game that only the hardcoe fanbase that said anything wants to play. Some complained that the writing style was not up to snuff, but that is more a matter of taste I would think. Some complained about the game play changes, but really, First Person Real Time is a better way to play a game like this, at least for me. A lot of the complaints were FUD as they were bandied about before the game even came out and anyone played.

Will New Vegas have better writing? It appear at this time to be that way, but until I play the game, I can't answer that one way or the other. Will the game be deeper than FO3 was? Again, it seems that way so far. However, any definitive opinion on this game that is bandied about before the game is played is, well, just words on a forum post.

Proof will be on the 19th of October, well maybe the 20th as people are playing first and posting later.

Okay, well, thanks for ignoring my main point to go into a tangent about a simple question (which you didnt really answer but beat around the bush like a pro politician, good job!)

I challenge you to name five sequels that have pissed off the franchise's fanbase as much as FO 3 did for the FO 1 & 2 fans. But that's neither here nor there. I just want to know what Beth does to determine what fans find integral parts of the game. If the answer is "nothing" you can just say "Bethesda doesn't care about people who care about FO 1 & 2".
