oblivion very low problem

Post » Fri Feb 04, 2011 9:57 pm

hi i was playing oblivion for a long time on very low settings and ive noticed that blood, and cobwebs are in a square texture. its very wierd and not aesthetically pleasing. is there a way to change the .ini file so it can change it??

Play with your Video Options in game to achieve a compromise between what you can tolerate visually and what your system can handle.

The very low settings where made special for the Nvidia FX series of cards that had a flawed implementation of the shaders that caused them to drop below 1FPS around any places that implemented certain shaders - so the problem with the cobwebs and blood spatter might be related to that. Try using LOW instead of Very low if you are on a GPU other than the Nidia FX series and see if it is better.

i have an intel 965 express chipset family graphics card so, im guessing its worse than the nvidia FX. i cannot play on low because it has horrible lag. i can play on ultra high outdoors but super lag indoors. its wierd. here is my information.

operating system-windows vista home premium service pack 2

processor-intel core 2 duo CPU T5750 2.00 GHZ

3GB of RAM

The pinned Topic Unofficial Technical FAQ's does have a few areas that cover tweaks specific to your video card. EDIT- spelling

Try setting the in-game texture size to large. See if that helps.

Did it force you to exit the game for the setting to take affect? If so, check the setting and see if it 'took'.... If you crash on exit, it won't save your changes.

Try bumping your screen resolution a bit, and see if it helps any.

Do you have a mod that changes the blood texture or did you open the blood texture and resave it at some point ? --- looks like the transparency of the texture is not working which would be the result of not having the proper alpha channel in the texture file (if you saved the texture without the alpha channel by using DXT1 for example or if a mod did this)

IF you removed the mod it might have still left the texture behind --- look in your DATA folder and see if there are any textures left in the Textures\effects\blood\ folder and if there are try renaming the blood folder to something else (this will cause the game to not find it and revert to using the texture from the original BSA file instead and may fix things.
