WANTED - Ongoing FALLOUT comic book series

Post » Fri Feb 04, 2011 4:41 pm

Since FALLOUT: New Vegas - Collector's Edition will be having a hardcover graphic novel from Dark Horse Comics, in my opinion there ought to be an ongoing FALLOUT comics series. Of course utilising the best artists and writers. Perhaps a couple variant covers for each issue i.e. Cover A is highly stylised painted cover and Cover B uses the Gamebryo engine but suitable for random scene. Cover C could be where if you have issues 1-4 it forms a Quadtych. No idea if Dark Horse would do this. Could even have fake full-page in-universe advertisemants too. Perhaps a mini-series in an ongoing series type of anthology where every few issues the writing and drawing team is on a rotational basis? Meaning issue 17 is Part 2 of 6 of a certain story. I'd also have per page for each comic book for the story to be 36 pages.
I'd love to have this in my pull bin at my local comic book shop. In my pull bin it's Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep; DADoES: Dust to Dust; Electric Ant and THE FLASH. Even get Moebius, alot of artists who paint and even the ones who use heavy amounts of details. No idiotic anime/manga style please as it doesn't suit the setting of FALLOUT. Opportunities are endless since each storyline could be set in the timeline after the divergence. Could even have a secondary series set up entitled Untold Tales featuring random characters from certain games and sort of a day or whatever sort of timeframe in the life of somebody. Both main series and eventual branch offs should be published where the covers are slightly thicker or perhaps bound in the style of Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep. I'd prefer the latter since the collector can tell by the spines for each issue and particular storylines.
As an example, it's great fun having a very low intelligence character in Fallout 1 and 2. Since The Vault Dweller and The Chosen One are already preset canon, why not have a roaming low intelligence but good hearted simpleton character featured? The Mis-Adventures of McShoot or something similar. Any setting would be alright. Say he's a background character who gets a spotlight and we take at look at their adventures. Even tales of various vaults. The more realistic in style and less cartoonish is what I approve of.
Could even have tales of various employees from different companies, even Nuka-Cola or Vault Tec. Terminal stories fleshed out perhaps in small 4 page features.
No idea for any other types of brainstorming but if this is done right with great colourists and absolutely no crappy artists such as Mark Bagley, you bet I'll have this in my pull box at my LCS. Of course superb quality should remain consistent for this comic book series.

MANDATORY for the comic series is of course it shall preserve the setting for FALLOUT as per the canon. Pertains to Fallout 1-3+DLC and New Vegas. Of course the updated Fallout Bible would be suitable as a guideline. I for one am glad Chris Avellone is penning All Roads.

See? Helps if it were ongoing yet had random storylines in some issues. Best way to keep it ongoing without having to resort to a ton of different mini-series. Could even change some locations. Work best if even some were one-shots, two-parters and even a year long. Possibly even small back-up tales or something? I'm just hoping there'll be an ongoing comic book series eventually but soon. Also would be nice when the Collector's Edition for New Vegas is released, since it has the All Roads hardcover graphic novel, the interest for said comic book series would gain. Being as All Roads could act as the catalyst. Then of course there'd be the Hardcovers and TPB's of the series as well.
Who knows? If it were to happen, I'm looking forward to it with cautious optimism.

I only think I could buy it if MCA was the writer.

Given that I'd prefer him to make games instead of write comics, I'd prefer that.

I would, as long as the story was well developed. I think Frank Miller's style would fit well.

Do you mean younger Frank Miller when his writing was still top notch or older Frank Miller where he's lost alot of his touch?
Hopefully this'll become a reality.

No. I like my art to be spontaneous and not dictated by someone's marketing needs.

I think you should have your comic book, but I wouldn't read it, why would I bother when I live Fallout via the games.

Wall of text = not reading.

But from your threads name, yes. I'd definitely like a n ongoing comic book series.
But I'd rather have it split up, so that for 2-5 issues there's one story that gets completed, then they start a new one set in the same or another area. For lore.
And everything in the comic has to go by the canon.

Maybe it would be a good idea to start the comic in DC, and explain:
Regulators
Talon Company
Uncle Leo and his escape from V87
Lyons BOS prior to setting camp in CW
Outcasts story
A special issue where it just explains in detail how and why Enclaves moved to CW
Maybe explain some of the Vaults.
What happened to the NPC's from Mothership Zeta after they took it over
Desmond from Point Lookout

This would give us a lot of history and expand on the lore from fallout 3.

And it ends when there's no more loose ends that needs to be tied up.

I'd read it.... I'd rather see the setting treated to an HBO series...
