heya im going to be getting a new cpu as a wedding gift but iget to choose wich one.

I will be going amd 6core black ed but was wondering if its worth getting the 1100 over the 1090. I know it only adds .1 clock speed and all but im wondering mor for overclocking and rendering posabilities.

I know I could have looked in another forum but the community here is always pretty helpful and knowlgable ( sorry for the typos im at work on my phone)

Well Oblivion doesnt really use more then 1 thread/core at a time by itself. It may use a bit of a second, but it doesnt even attempt to use a quad or hexacore. If gaming is all you are doing, then a hexacore is really not worth it. What graphics card and CPU do you have, as well as motherboard and RAM? And do you do any video editing or anything besides gaming?

Six cores are a bit overkill at the moment. Most new games are only written with two in mind, since that's the most common one out there right now, with some being designed with a possibility of four. Only a very small number of games will make use of any more than that, and the performance difference will be marginal. By the time that the software industry starts catering to that number of cores, it will probably be time to upgrade anyway. So if money is any sort of consideration in your gift, it would be better spent with just a quad-core right now.

Well im also looking for 3d rendering and multi tasking-production. My gpu is hd6770 oced 1gb vram and ill be getting a mobo with 2 pci express slots. I have 9 gb of ram.

I know games dont make use of multi cores very well, but im also thinking of system longevety because while its kindof a beefy system I will eventualy build a gaming rig andthis will become a family rig. I was just wondering If the 1100gt is enough of an upgrade over the 1090gt to warant a purchase

If you're already overclocking, then you really only need the 1090T. Although the 1100T is only $10 more last time I checked, so it really isn't that drastic of a decision. Getting a six-core may not help your system longevity very much. When games get around to even using that many cores, the chip will probably be considered slow. For rendering and heavy multi-tasking, the extra cores can come in handy.

And 9GB of RAM? That is an odd number to have, which makes me wonder if you ended up disabling dual-channel with whatever configuration of sticks you have. 8GB, or 2x4GB sticks, is plenty enough already.

Ohh its only a 10 dollar difference. I havent checked in a while.

Lol yea about the ram I only have 32bit win ultimate right now and my grandpa gave me a few extra sticks so I threw um in there so they wouldnt get lost in the move. When I get all settled in I think im gonna upgrade to 64bit and take out the one gig stick to build a little media pc for the livingroom tv. The rest of the mem is all the same tho.

Thnx for all the help guys

It's a good suggestion considering the performance of SandyBridge, but it sounds like the OP already has a motherboard that supports AM3 chips and just wants to look for an upgrade to get more life out of the current system.
