The biggest failure of the gaming community in 2010?

Post » Sun Feb 06, 2011 10:12 am

The actual gameplay was much better, the powers and guns were more distinct and the character progression system much easier to grasp. Overly simple, perhaps, but the ME2 approach is more elegant. Story is crap, but that's what i've come to expect from games, and no, i don't see what's so special about ME1 story either, so maybe i'm just stupid  However as a game it's an improvement.

As for me, Steam UI update almost was the epic fail of all times due to preventing me from using (it happened this year, right?), but as i managed to kick it into working order, i have to agree with Ubisoft's DRM. I did buy Assassin's Creed 2, AS A USED COPY FOR MY PS3! :D

Yet the gameplay wasn't better, it was pop up, shoot, pop up etc. All the strategy was taken out by including regenerative health, faster cool-downs that cut off other powers, etc. The rock-paper-scissors armor/shield/barrier thing was boring and made combat even duller. While the shooter fan may say that this makes it "more fun" and "less dull than an RPG", the RPG fan will say the opposite. I was thoroughly bored by ME2. The the feeling of accomplishment from unlocking a new power or weapon for another play-through is just given to you in 2. If Bioware wanted to make a shooter they should have, just leave ME alone. Mass Effect got Xenosaga-ed.

 What's wrong with Xenosaga? Apart from episode 2 :P

I still say i lke the gameplay of ME2 better, mainly because of Cloak with the Widow Rifle, and charge with the Claymore shotgun. Some statistics said most people played with Soldier class, no wonder they found it boring GoW clone. If the game is focused on combat it'd better do it well, and IMO ME2 does it better.

I loved ME2. Found the settings and characters a lot better. And I enjoyed it's gameplay more than ME1.
I bought the game twice through steam this year.

GoG's going dead stunt was kinda fail.

I'd have to say Sniper Ghost Warrior, I thought the game looked so awesome, I even pre-ordered it. But what I got was a pretty poor game, the multiplayer wasn't bad, I'll give it that. It just could've been so much better...

Yeah, choosing which powers to use and when, what type of enemies your going up against and how many Medi-Gels you have. In 2 all you did was spam some power over and over since there's no reason to use the others because they essentially do the same thing (using the rock-paper-scissors routine over and over again). Micro, or just managing your and your squads weapons, armor, upgrades. Leveling up actually mattered instead of the ME2 "gimp-proof" system. I could go on...

The world doesn't need more shooters and action games, it needs more RPGs...and another one bit the dust.

Speak for yourself. I hate most shooters, I love RPGs, and I loved ME2.

Indeed.

Fire assault rifle till almost overheating > overkill > fire till almost overheating (almost every mob is dead by now) > adrenaline burst > overkill > fire till almost overheating.

Don't see the great skill and strategy in just keeping your finger on the trigger of your assault rifle non-stop for an entire battle, there's more strategy involved in playing Gears of War.

You make it sound like it made a difference in ME1 whether I 1shotted an entire room full of enemies with a singularity or a throw.

Final Fantasy XIV was a tremendous failure. It's like they spent all that time doing nothing and then threw it all together in 1 week. It needs major fixes and enhancements to compete with anything on the market now.

Another disappointment this year was with myself, for buying Deus Ex but keeping it in my backlog for months. It's depressing to think that the desktop icon for the best game I've ever played to date has been sitting there, cold and lonely as I spent my time played other, less-wonderful games.

I did buy Assassin's Creed 2, AS A USED COPY FOR MY PS3! :D

:hugs:

That's what I'll be doing when I get a new Xbox 360, but lord knows when that will be. My policy with Ubisoft games now is I'll buy any that were made before the DRM was put into effect, but not after, unless they're used. It's a shame too, Ubisoft has published a lot of damn good games in the past, and likely will continue to do so in the future.

Have you ever stopped to consider that maybe, just maybe, these people just didn't enjoy the game? You don't have to share their point of view, but they don't have to share yours either.

I swear the anti-elitists are becoming more aggressive than the elitists these days.

No, I don't give a damn if someone just didn't enjoy overall from a personal perspective, I only get pissed off when [censored]s try to explain why an excellent game is crap when it's clearly not. If you did not like Mass Effect 2, good for you. I don't give a damn, and it's not my business. But if you are going to try to make it out to be some kind of "casual gamer garbage", then you're dead-wrong and I'll tell you so.

It was a huge, solid game that made very few actual departures from the gameplay of the first, believe it or not, and it was a massive achievement on Bioware's part.

Okay, stop. Just stop. Th3undon3on3 is just trying to point out that everyone has their own opinions which CLEARLY you can't seem to accept. This right here proves my point. "I only get pissed off when [censored]s try to explain why an excellent game is crap when it's clearly not."

This is YOUR opinion, MY opinion is that the story felt like it was a filler for the third game. Just because YOUR opinion is that the game and story was great does NOT mean that MY opinion HAS to match and vice versa.

Okay?

"It is crap because I did not like it" -Incorrect. This an attack on the game based on and hidden behined an opinion.

"I did not like it because [insert reason]" -Correct. This is a backed-up negative-opinion about the game.

That's still an opinion. They are expressing that because they didn't like it, they think it's crap.

Hmm, let me rephrase it in a more accurate manner: "People who enjoy this are idiots because I think it's crap."

It's an opinionated attack, and retaliation is not wrong.

"The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is the greatest game in the history of the universe.!"

"The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion is the greatest game in the history of the universe. because with it's level scaling every bandit ends up with Daedric Armor!"

Which one is the flamebait? :)

Edit: Auto-censor disapproves. Oh well, you should be able to decipher the original message :D

And that's also not what was originally said, making that statement slander.

Seriously, some people enjoy the game, some people don't. Saying that "I think the game is crap because I didn't enjoy it" =/= "People who enjoy this game are idiots because I think it's crap."

And actually, that's what YOU'RE saying but conversely.

"No, I don't give a damn if someone just didn't enjoy overall from a personal perspective, I only get pissed off when [censored]s try to explain why an excellent game is crap when it's clearly not. And with that, I wash my hands of this discussion. Good day gentlemen.
