Monks in Cyrodil?

Post » Sun Feb 06, 2011 4:37 am

I'm working on a mod idea aiming to portray a monastary. However I've found no information on (daily) rites, or the role of a monk(nun) in cyrodil of interpreting his or her religion. Have any of you found anything ingame or know anything about this ?

I'm sure there is an order of monks that look after the elder scrolls, but cant think of the names.... might of been the ancestor moths.

No, Bethesda saw fit to not include anything like this in Oblivion that would give any depth to Cyrodiil. :banghead:

hmm yes, but I was thinking more in the direction of whatever the more religious practices the blades undergo or even what the actual role of the people in the cathedrals is. Is the religion written down by a chosen mortal or does the divine power simply flow trough them ?

Imperials generally worship the Nine Divines. Is that what you're talking about?

Oh, well.....I can't really be much help. Chapels and shrines are used a lot, I know that. Each Divine has their own chapel in Oblivion I believe. There are cults as well, and this was well implemented in Morrowind. Don't quote me on this but I'm pretty sure the "Pilgrim's Path" is a book in Morrowind that dealt with the Nine. I'm not sure though.

Sorry, but I don't really know anything specific on HOW they do it.

EDIT: Whoa......the last sentence is a little awkward.

Large Ancestor Moths cover the Ancestor monks and priests head to toe, and swirl around them like clouds. Seeing that the priests and monks are known to wander around the IC, I'd say they see through some prescience, or through the moths. Most of them are blind, devoting themselves to being seers and divining through the Elder Scrolls.

The Pilgrim's Path is one of the Tribunal Temple's religious trials. Only in Morrowind.

Damn, I figured I was wrong. Thanks for clearing that up, Lord H.

You have the Pilgrimage to the way shrines in Knights of the Nine though.

Aside from that prayers, sermons from the priests and occasionally a vision or an encounter with the divines in disguise. That's about the full extend of their interaction with normal people.

You have a bit of freedom here, though I believe daggerfall had more info on how the individual divines were worshipped, you may want to take a look at that (sorry, can't think of somehting to link to at the moment).

Thats fine ;) Iv've had daggerfall lying around for years now I have a reason to check it out. Am I correct in asuming that the moths are the only monastic order ? What about the sisters at Gottelsfont ?

Cyrodiil would have scores of different faiths and presumably orders for several. You a mile or so of leeway.

Though not featured, Cyrodiil is supposed to have quite a lot cults worshipping the different deities. You have quite a lot of freedom. Hmm, maybe a six cult? THATS interesting...

Dibella: "Popular god of the Nine Divines. In Cyrodiil, she has nearly a dozen different cults, some devoted to women, some to artists and aesthetics, and others to erotic instruction."

Too bad none of them showed up in Oblivion, or any other cult specific to one of the Nine Divines, save for the Order of Talos.
