Skyrim Return of Dwarves?

Post » Sun Feb 06, 2011 6:44 am

The last Dwemer was in Divayth Fir's http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Morrowind:Yagrum_Bagarn.

No he's not, I killed him. I also killed Vivec, and King Helseth, and Divayth Fyr, and...

So that's what happened to Morrowind! It wasn't the Ministry of Truth, the Neravarine just killed everyone in a murderous rampage!

Everything is better with midgets!!!

.. on a serious note, I found it strange that Oblivion had dwarven armor and it fit everyone, especially the greaves...

I hope they include some sort of back story on how they dissapeared etc..

They did, it's called Morrowind. For how they disappeared, word of god states they were all absorbed into the Numidium to become its golden skin, save for Yagrum and the ghosts (because the latter are dead).

I always wondered why my big burly Nord fit so well into Dwemer armour if they were a squat race.

http://faerie.monstrous.com/pictures/Dwarf09.jpg, they're mer that look like http://www.imperial-library.info/sites/default/files/tdgtd_dwemer_image_01.jpg and http://www.imperial-library.info/sites/default/files/tdgtd_dwemer_statue_04.jpg. Also, if you were to compare the size of dwemer ghosts with the other races in Morrowind, they're roughly the size of an imperial. The shortest race to date is a male bosmer.

It fit everyone else because the Dwemer were the same size as the other races.

Oh, so is "dwarven" after "dwemer", not after "dwarf"?
News to me :)

Dwarven is after Dwarf, but the "Dwarves" are the same as the Dwemer, the Dwemer is their real name though.

If I remember correctly dwarf might have been a mistranslation of dwemer that actually means deep ones (aka living underground)

"Dwarf" is a nickname given to them by a fabled race of giants (as they would be dwarves relative to a race of, you know, giants, as would yourself); "Dwemer" is their proper name. This comes from this bit of dialogue in TES3:
The Dwemer are the fabled lost Dwarven race whose ruins and splendid artifacts are scattered across Tamriel. Elves use the term "Dwemer," connoting variously "deep-delving," "profound," and "close-counseled"; Imperial usage is "Dwarven," derived in fable from the affectionate regard of the Giant races for their "little" Dwemer friends. There are several Dwemer sites on Vvardenfell, and many have found Dwemer artifacts.

i wonder if there gonna add dwarves to the character creation..

...yes, we'll be able to play as a race that no longer exists, and they've also confirmed we'll be able to play as the daedric princes.

seriously, why do people keep asking for this? read the lore!

the dwemer are LONG GONE, they do NOT exist anymore... they vanished into thin air because they were playing god!

the last dwemer that somehow avoided the disappearance is likely dead by now since he was half-machine and bloated with disease in morrowind.

also, todd said in the interview videos that ten races is enough, so i highly doubt we'll ever get to use any other races except the ten we've been using.

Dwarves are Dwemer, which are Mer(Elves) just like Dunmer, Bosmer, & Altmer. They aren't short little men in this universe.

Bit random side note, in Norse mythology and Norwegian(and icelandic) folklore, another name for Dwarves is 'd?kkálfar' and svartálfar/svartalver. Dark/black elves.
Which live under ground. The other elf race, which is wherefrom Tolkien got his elves, is the ljósalfar, light-elves, tall, bright and pretty, quite unlike the dark elves/dwarves.

'They are alternatively known as Dwarves, a term used by Imperials...'

This was on UESPwiki - is it accurate? If so, then Bethesda naming all the Dwemer armour in Cyrodiil 'Dwarven Armour' made sense.

Frankly, we just have to accommodate a degree of, uh... stupidity for a while. It's always this way when a new and exciting game is announced; the forums get filled with a lot of people that don't know hardly anything about the series.

Yes. But for future reference, don't go to UESP for information about lore - a lot of it is highly inaccurate. It is a good resource for gameplay information, but not lore.

Well, Dwarf and Dwemer refer to the same race of Elves in TES. Just like the Dunmer, Bosmer, and Altmer are called Dark Elves, Wood Elves, and High Elves, the Dwemer are also called Dwarves very commonly.

Bit random side note, in Norse mythology and Norwegian(and icelandic) folklore, another name for Dwarves is 'd?kkálfar' and svartálfar/svartalver. Dark/black elves.

I wouldn't be surprised if they went back to this for inspiration.

I really hope they will flesh out Dwemer lore even more in Skyrim.
I just read all in game books about Dwemer again, and I am quite fascinated. :D

Very hard actually, since they used their souls to become the incorruptable metal of wich Numindium is constructed.
To achieve return to before AE.

a nice read, I did know the story before but not in such details, :) well I guess they either were destroyed utterly (small chance) or they actually succeeded in becoming one in the place before creation occurred which is kinda nice if you think about it, or they are still trapped inside the indestructible metal forever bound until someone or something releases them back into the world or back into the after life.

man you reminded me of why I loved morrowind so much, such epic tales :read:

They already did, in Morrowind. Or they left enough puzzle pieces for you to attempt to figure out most of it on your own.
