The Wild Hunt

So what exactly is the Wild Hunt? I've heard it mentioned all over but I can't find a single definition anywhere, just more references.

I ask the same question a while back, you may want to read http://www.imperial-library.info/obbooks/dance_fire.shtml

That's some decent background, but some more learned members can clear the rest up for you.

The first http://www.imperial-library.info/pge/aldmeridominion.shtml has a brief definition of the Bosmeri Wild Hunt.

There's also Dagon's http://www.imperial-library.info/obbooks/posting_hunt.shtml, from http://www.imperial-library.info/tsobs/part05.shtml.

Its when the Bosmer all transform into monsters. Thats it in a nutshell, they can't turn back and its not something they enjoy doing or are proud of. Someone else may come along and elaborate much better, but I dont feel like it.

K. It's the Bosmer's knowledge of a time when mortal physical form wasn't established by Y'ffre law.

Or if you misread one letter on "hunt," an evil nymphomaniac witch who lives naked in the woods.

Whoops, negative points on me, they were berserkers.

So do we know what causes the Bosmer to transform and begin the Wild Hunt? Obviously not willingly, since they seem to be ashamed of it. And does that passage in the Pocket Guide to the Empire really suggest that all wild life, or at least the more monstrous ones (mintotaurs come to mind) are Bosmer that began the Wild Hunt and never returned?

And is there any connection between Dagon's hunt and the Wild Hunt? Or is it just the same name?

The Wild Hunt is the original state of the Bosmer, before they were stabilized by Y'ffre, Convention, civilization or some combination thereof. Basically they go Lord of the Flies on people when too many get together for an environmentalist rock concert. And we have seen it used as a weapon.

Basically, a bunch of Bosmer get together and perform a ritual, allowing themselves to become monsters in order to achieve some goal, like killing King Borgas. Even though they do it willingly, I believe they view it as a last resort, due to its horrific nature. There's a great description of it in the book http://www.imperial-library.info/obbooks/dance_fire.shtml, in which the narrator is a witness to one. And yeah, [at least] according to the PGE writer's Bosmer companion, every monster in the world is from a previous Wild Hunt.

Dagon's Wild Hunt and the Bosmer Wild Hunt just happen to have the same name.

In the forums somewhere, Lutemoth drew a great picture of a Wild Hunt ritual. Or I think it was him and an antlered crane fly. Anyway, if you can find the drawing, you'll get college credit.
