Different Character, Same Name

Post » Sun Feb 13, 2011 9:58 am

With Oblivion, if you didn't want the game to recognise saves, you just changed the name of the folder to something else.

However, with FO3, the folder is named after the GfWL account.

If I were to make a new character, but with the same name as my current one, what should I do? If I just change the folder name, won't it get all confused about where to save things? Or should I just move the files out of the GfWL folder entirely? Or, should I cut and paste the GfWL folder somewhere else; will the game make a new one?

Sorry if muddled; any help appriciated.

well the logical thing that i can think of is, move your old save to another folder, then make a new save, although i'm not sure it will work (haven't tried it) but i assume you only do one character at a time.

Yup, I'm not looking to switch between the characters; I just don't want to lose the old one.

Think I'll probably just play it safe and copy the folder elsewhere. I'm not 100% trustworthy of save folders, that's all. They so often find a way to make me make a mistake ;)

soon a number of save might be confusing, so maybe its good if you name the folders of your older saves (maybe a date? i think) because maybe later on you will find your old character back and play it and you have to place the appropriate save file to the right destination.

OK, all seems to work fine.

One thing, though. Why are my save numbers following on from the previous character? The first save out of the Vault was #86.

Is there a way to remedy this, or is it because I used the same name, or because it's linked to the GfWL account?

I only ask because I swear before I've moved stuff out of the folders before and it's started the saves over from scratch... maybe I need to delete the actual Save folder and then copy across the preference file later so my settings are right...
