Cleaning a dirty mod

Post » Wed Feb 16, 2011 4:28 am

I'm not new to modding. I've modded for Oblivion and Morrowind and am getting started in GECK. I was careful with my Oblivion mods, so never had dirty references.

I made a mod for Fallout 3 and was going to take it on one direction as as add-on to existing cells, but then decided to make it seperate as it's less likely to conflict with any other mods. So now I have a "dirty" mod.

So I did the "official" clean and started to load the mod in GECK and hit "details" button before loading and in the "dirty" cells, clicked the Delete and they had the "i" (for ignore). However, when I look at the mod, the cells were still "dirty". I don't know why it wouldn't have returned those cells to the original and deleted those from this mod. I put a lot of work into the rest of it, so really don't want to start over.

Just clean those 3 cells and return them to their original state and I'm good to go.

How can I do that, if the "official" won't work? Is there a TESAME for FO3?

Fairly new to FO3 but I did use the TESCS quite alot, mainly for Morrowind - ah, TESAME brings back some fond memories :)

Anyway, I believe http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=637 is what you need.

This is a quote from another thread - the OP had deleted some vanilla content and it was causing problems - deleting vanilla content, it seems, is a bad idea? but the quote from one of the replies might shed some light on how to use FO3Edit in the context of restoring some content from vanilla FO3.

...you are going to have to become familiar with FO3Edit. You'll need to load your mod in FO3Edit, run a filter with only 'Conflict status inherited by parent' then choose the option to 'undelete and disable references' from the context menu. This is only the start. If you're lucky, that's all you'll have to do. If you're unlucky, then you may have to selectively remove over-ride records that are causing problems to revert the the original assets back to their original form.

Not used FO3Edit so not sure how easy it is so I'd recommend backing up your ESP before trying to clean it (though you'll probably be in the habit of doing so already if you used TESAME before).

Hope this helps :)

Yes FO3Edit is exactly what you need. You can use it to delete any part of your mod you don't want, effectively erasing that you ever changed/added that. Its fantastic if you add/change a large chunk of something on accident and want to undo it without restarted (like what your encountering) It also can Undelete and disable references if you delete alot of vanilla content of accident. Its very very helpful.
