.esp files dont show up in data/ cannot be accessed

Post » Thu Feb 17, 2011 10:56 am

i built some mods like an auto-shotgun, automatic laser rifle and an armored business suit and saved it properly in the c:/program files(x86)/bethesda softworks/fallout 3/data/ folder yet when i load the fallout launcher i do not see the .esp files in the "data files" list let alone in the data folder itself

when i go into geck and see the mods, the icons in the save menus for .esp files show up as http://img80.imageshack.us/img80/8139/espiconlocked.jpg
oh and i am an administrator of the comp so any ideas on how to fix this issue so i can actually use my mods??

Yea you need to actually run the GECK as administrator, not simply be logged into an admin account. This allows the GECK to save without your computer assuming its a virus and blocking it and locking it down. Right click your desktop shortcut and select properties. Then click the compatability tab, and check 'Always run as admin'. Then click OK and run the geck, load and then save your mod again. Then they will appear properly in the Fallout 3 launcher. This should fix your problem. We get someone here with it about every week or so. :P

You can also just go to the properties of your Fallout 3 folder in program files, then change the security settings to allow regular users write privileges. This accomplishes the same thing but without the extra 2 seconds to click on the admin message.
