AI Packages Crash

Post » Thu Feb 17, 2011 9:46 pm

Hello,

I am a semi-experienced CS user but am new to the GECK. The problem is that whenever I select any sort of AI package, the GECK crashes and a window's "GECK has stopped responding" message pops up. As you can imagine this is extremely annoying and I have tried everything I can think of.

Things I have tried (So please don't suggest them):
- Updating the GECK to 1.5
- Updating Fallout 3 to 1.7
- Enabling all read and write privileges in my Fallout 3 folder
- Running the GECK in administrator and Windows XP mode
- Making a completely new .esp and making it the active file
-Reinstalling the GECK

I have found 1 other post of this problem in these forums and two outside, but all of them are unresolved.

Another, possibly unrelated problem that I have is that every time I close the GECK after I have loaded a data file it crashes instead of closing. Not as annoying as the packages issue but maybe related.

I have Windows Vista 32bit

Thanks,
WM

Well,

None of us ever clicks X on the GECK in an attempt to close it if it has any loaded files. The way to kill GECK is to end-task it, pretty much. It does not crash for me, but it sits for a long time, unresponsive. It's doing some sort of gigantic check when it freezes up, I think, (or its trying to).

The AI packages problem. I've personally experienced with certain things where, if I go to the AI packages part of the GECK and scroll down through the list, some package (probably my own modded one) triggers the GECK to blow up. This is without me selecting any AI packages. It sounds like, any time you double click a package, you get a crash?

Try opening an NPC and double-clicking a package from there.... just to see if it blows up.

I do not know what would cause this AI package GECK crashing in the unmodded game. :/

Thanks for the info, happy I am not the only one with the annoying hang when you try to exit.

Actually my problem is exactly the opposite, when I go into the form data of an NPC and click on the package it crashes, but when I go into the Actor Data>Packages and select one it works fine...
If the package is unique to the form I am using then I can just modify it from there, but for instance if it is a default package used by multiple forms and i want it deleted from my NPC I can't do it, as I cannot access the AI packages for a specific form.Sorry I wasn't clear on that.

Something about that is pissing your computer off! Video driver version maybe? Maybe on a different video card it won't happen.

Never experienced anything resembling that one.

Is the X button not the proper way to close the geck? I do that all the time, and although it usually takes more than 3 minutes to finish doing all its stuff, I don't think it's ever not closed or crashed when I did that.

Ctrl Alt Del > end process GECK.exe works for me. Shuts it down instantly. Never liked waiting after hitting the normal close button, and listening to my comp grind away for what seems like forever.

Ok, so it's just an issue of not wanting to wait then.. good. I wasn't sure because I've never heard that before, and seeing how many little bugs there are.. better ask.
Thanks

Its already saved your file at the point where you end-task it. All the checking it would try to do upon a normal exit.. well... it sorta doesn't find anything wrong if you let it run.. well it won't find anything in my experience that it won't find at start-up anyhow. Maybe it's a better check, but whatever it is, I have lived without it for pretty much, ever.

If it took 3 minutes to start like it does to shut down, I'd kill myself.

or something.
