I was just going out of minfield towards the power station and there was a noise like a plane going overhead and exploding but I cant find what created the noise and I keep finding alien power cells in that area.
does anyone know what it was

Keep looking in the area you find the powercells, You would find an alien handgun, one of the best guns in the game, downside it that it require the very rare alien powercells.

so it was a space ship crashing.is there a ship to find.I looked all over but cant find a gun anywhere.
is it very rare for this encounter to happen.I made a save 30 seconds before and have loaded a few times but it never happens again

It's a random encounter it may never happen again ever sadly.

To find this do you need Mothership Zeta DLC? As for more alien power cells you can tons of it in a locked storage room at Outcast fort. I think Fort called, "Fort Independence."

you won't find any spaceship that crashed unless you have the spaceship add on. this event doesn't happen very often and only once per game. if you can't find the pistol, leave some of the power cells behind. make note of the location and mark it on the map. and then get dogmeat. he is good at finding hard to reach weapons and such.

Just to clarify... you don't need Mothership Zeta or any other DLC to get this. There is a crashed spaceship you can find in the Wasteland, but it isn't directly related to the event of the explosion and raining alien tech. That is a rare random encounter that can happen in any of the spots that you can get random encounters in... The gun and powercells fall from high and have a tendency to scatter and roll, so you may have to search very hard to find them, and they could be on top of buildings and such. Searching at night helps because they glow a bit. Dogmeat can also search and bring back the alien gun if you have him.

somthing even stranger happend tonight it may just be my console going funny.but I went into vault 106 and the screen keeps going blue and loads of dads keep apereing is this a glitch or is it supposed to happen

Yeah that supposed to happen. There is another vault does same thing showing ppl appearing like in flashback what happen in there. Can't remember where though.

The explosion happens only once in a game, the gun is the "alien blaster - firelance" and is the unique version of the alien blaster which is also unique as there are only two of them in the game that (I know of). You don't need mother ship zeta add-on to find this, it is just a rare encounter. you can find ammo for these weapons at fort inderpendance, bortherhood outcasts controled, fort banister and if you have the brokensteel add-on if you blow up the citadel instead of the adams air force base, there is a door in the citadel reckage which isn't accessable unless you blow it up. Anyway in that door is an underground armory which contains alien power cells aswell as lots of other items and a unique .44 scoped magnum "callahans magnum" . And last but not lest mother ship zeta on board the mother ship you will find lots of power cell.

As for vault 106 some of the tests they were doing in there create a strange gas which makes you hallucinate and see things like your dad and so on, but yes this is ment to happen.

Have found firelance two times but never seen any blast. Last time was a disappointment, it was at a train yard not north of Bigtown and I only got 5 power cells. The other time was at the anchorage war memorial and I found around 20 power cells at a far lower level.

If you have the pyromaniac perk firelance is one of the best weapons in the game, it has 100% chance of critical hit, no spread and high rate of fire.
The alien ammo you find on mothership zeta is not the same as the alien blaster/ firelance use. A shame as none of the guns you find on it is as good as firelance or the alien blaster.
