My PC doesn't turn on

Post » Sun Feb 20, 2011 4:45 pm

Hello, my other PC is having problems, when I turn it on the monitor doesn't even turn on (and I've tried with a different monitor). Before this, sometimes little coloured squares appeared and then the blue screen showed up. Other times these squares appeared and then a Windows message showed up saying there were issues with video drivers but Windows resolved them. Other times the monitor wouldn't even turn on, like now, and I'd have to reset for it to boot.

However when I put the monitor cable on the motherboard's video card the monitor doesn't turn on either... Are my video card and motherboard's on-board video card both broken?

Today I noticed another problem after turning the computer on. It smelled like something was burning, and I think it was coming from the power supply...

I'm not sure, but this may have started when the fan on the computer's case back got loose and was even touching the video card, while it was still working... I'm not sure if I had these problems before that though...

What do you think?

hey.........love your show.

if your mobo has onboard video try taking out your graphics card so that it uses the onboard one instead. it might be the PSU or the graphics card fan might need to be replaced if you smelling stuff. i would also try resetting you cmos if you were doing any overclocking sometimes when you OC things might run for a while just fine but then if your room temp increases enough or some other factor it can cause issues with your settings. i had this issue when i moved one of my PCs from one room to another room that was 20 degrees warmer.

Best to completely uninstall the discrete cards drivers before doing so. (Using http://www.guru3d.com/category/driversweeper/ in safe mode to completely remove all traces. Optional, but recommend.)
