Dear Devs: Please remember the female players

Post » Mon Feb 21, 2011 9:03 am

I don't really see what that has to do with having female genitalia, but alright, sounds good.

I WOULD BET A 1000$ THIS TOPIC WILL REACH 5 PAGES+ BECAUSE IT'S STARTED BY A FEMALE, YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED

See, what did I say?

I mean, this is just a completely generic topic that has nothing to do with females specifically, yet it's still at 7 pages more than other similar topics, only difference is that OP is female.

And for that matter why do females always have to make it so blatantly obvious they're female gamers, it did not matter at all to the topic, are you women just looking for attention :/?

Edit: Oh, and, seriously? Listing "Voice consistancy" as an issue that only affects females? What do you think guys do during dialogue, stare at the NPCs briasts? Sigh..

I "like" it how people here are are managing to troll allover the op for admiring she is a woman and somewhat stereotypical under the disguise of being unprejudiced and non offensive... Lay off - a woman has a right and freedom to be as stereotypical as she want to be. There is nothing wrong with a woman who likes to cook, wants to have children and adores decorating her house. In fact most of our society stands on their shoulders. Yes, a woman has a right to chose a different path, but she does not have to, and being stereotypical does not make her any less "cool", important, and does not diminish her right to be heard and appreciated.
Right now all you manage to demonstrate is that you have to be a boyish-girl, and oh-I'm-so different, and have an issue with classical gender roles to fit in to a gaming community, which is not true.
Hey I my self like to cook and decorate, I wear make up and stiletto heals, oh and I have a killer figure as well as social skills, and you know what? I'm still a gamer with more than 18 years of gaming experience, and at least 9 years of modding under my garter belt :D And every time a person asks why a "girl like me plays video games" I want to kick someone for supporting the "average gamer" stereotype, because a good game can be enjoyed by all, and people should remember and accept that, there is no "exclusive" club with instruction on how you should look, feel and behave to play games.

Wow, are freaking you serious?

"a woman has a right and freedom to be as stereotypical as she want to be"

"every time a person asks why a "girl like me plays video games" I want to kick someone for supporting the "average gamer" stereotype"

Freaking double standards..

And people are "trolling" OP because she's looking for attention, none of those things are related to females, I'm a straight male and I love to decorate in Oblivion...

No kidding, whats more some people *points towards the first 5 or so posts on this page* have turned it into a sixist flame war. Yes, you are women, you want to be seen as equal, then DON'T TRY AND USE YOUR GENDER TO MAKE/WIN ARGUMENTS! We don't throw "I'm a man and this game isn't catering to my needs" into every thread we make, regardless of if it has gender specific information or requests or not. AlexanderSig is right, I have seen posts on all of these topics already and none of them got more than a page or two.

a woman has a right and freedom to be as stereotypical as she want to be

Sweet, then I am gonna go out, get hammered, smack my wife and/or gf whilst demanding pot roast, then pass out on the couch and go to work the next day and remind the entire office why we have an HR department with the help of my secretary Sheila. Unless you are implying that only women can be as stereotypical as they want and men are restricted from doing so. Being discriminated against hurts ya know.

Not a double standard - I'm against having stereotypes to begin with. Yet a set of qualities we call "stereotypical" today has as much right to exist as a "non stereotypical" one.

Speaking of female issues...

Female characters should totally have the special ability of the menstrual cycle. One week we're weaker, and one we're a force to be reckoned with (minus the disposition drop for NPC interactions :sadvaultboy: ).

I actually have a Morrowind mod that does that.

Well if gender stereotyping is acceptable and said stereotype has the same right to exist as a non-stereotype then...
See how odd this gets OP?

sadly not... Although I think they could be added to the suggestions page (not because of the fact that it applies to women in some strange way)

I would love to personally but we can't because the suggestions have nothing to do with the topic. According to the topic we are supposed to be acknowledging the female players and all the suggestions are irrelevant to the topic so we really just cant. However because I am bored, have to make a phone call, want breakfast, and have oft seen you around the boards and have noted that you are an excellent contributor I am going to wash my hands of this thread and move on, I suggest you and the others do it too.

Hear, hear. :wavey:

Seriously though, this isn't the place for a debate on gender roles in society.

So you never get drunk or think that it's unacceptable to ever get drunk because it will be stereotypical male behavior? Following your logic, only woman can get drunk because, it woun't be stereotypical than. Smacking your wife is a criminal offense and home abuse, nothing to do with stereotypes. And don't tell me you will object to your wife having cooking skills. Again by you logic, not to be stereotypical only woman will be allowed to work. or cheat :D
My pint is - both genders are allowed any kind of behavior that is descent, and socially acceptable. A man has a right to stay at home and take care of the children if he wants to, and a woman has a right to work and become and a pilot if she wants to, but that does not mean that we have to we all have equal right to do things the other way around, and man should not be bashed for a desire to work, and not cook and change draqers, as well as woman should not be bashed for a desire to stay at home. All choices are equally acceptable and equally good.

There are a few things that I absolutely love about TES games that IN GENERAL, most men wouldn't care about. Here is my list of things I hope that are in Skyrim that would greatly enhance my personal gaming experience as a mature female player:

1. Houses. I loved having my houses in Daggerfall forward. Of all TES series, Obilvion had the best ways to decorate the house but it was extremely clumsey (took me 30 minutes to get all my useless keys into a bowl on the table). It would be nice if decorating was a bit easier to do. Perhaps have some furniture choices or the ability to pick a color for draqes, etc.

2. Banking. I loved banking in Daggerfall. It was much more realistic to have to deposit gold into the bank and withdraw it to spend it. The loan thing was fun too. Perhaps some enhancement to that as well.

3. Clothing. It really bugged me that when I put a robe on in Oblivion, I looked exactly like a man. To look like a lady, I basically had to put a dress on.

4. Clothing/armor SETS. It would be nice to be able to keep a set of armor or a set of town clothing on a key so I could switch between the two more easily.

5. Journaling. It would be nice to have the ability to keep a written journal in game. Something to keep my own notes, reminders to check something out later, questions as I move through the world and don't want to forget to work on.

6. Voice consistancy. It was really annoying to talk to a begger who had a scratchy voice when they asked for for a coin. When you asked them a question, their voice completely changed - it was a totally different actor.

And for me personally as a moderate combat player who more enjoys the story line, beautiful graphics, emersion into the game world as opposed to dying all the time, please keep the "difficulty" slider. Someone had suggested that they don't "dummy down the game" but have the ability to dummy it down if you want/need to. I thought this was a great feature in Oblivion and when my character got too buff to make anything a challange, I would notch the slider up a bit to spice things up.

Side note: I absolutely love what I've read and seen so far. I will drive my family NUTS talking about this game for the next 10 months!

I loved decorating my house. I spent a ridiculous amount of time putting things in cases, on shelves, etc.

Playing style has nothing to do with gender... I'm a girl and I love combat... but not just hack and slay... even more strategic combat!
I'm really good at it, even developing an AI right now for a accessment in University... .

OP is stereotypical you say? And you are flaming her for it? I'm now at a loss of words ... :(
It's really rude and you should stop.

This thing was a horribly bad idea. Well the suggestions could go in the suggestions thread, and the 'remember the female players' basically poured gasoline all over some wood, lit a match, and had it wavering over it... But, we need to get back to the suggestions so that we can avoid the wrath of Rohugh.

P.S. To the woman who said men were trolling for being offended by what the OP said...If I said what men want, we'll say: Better combat, better graphics, better magic system, the ability to mix-max armor, and dual-wielding, wouldn't you feel offended, because that implies you don't care about that stuff and you're just being a stereotypical woman. Please people, let's avoid sterotypes.

Dear devs, you heard the women's side, now it's our turn:

1) Player CASTLES. Why would I want anything less than that?
2) Mead halls. Come on, you promised.
3) Tavern Fights. And lots of drunken Nords!
4) Like, really manly armor. I want steel and dead animals wrapped around my muscles.
5) Emotional simplicity. None of that romance crap.
6) Charging a dragon by horse in a real epic way. Maybe on several horses because they die from exhaustion, that would be awesome.

Uh. I want everything on this list, actually. And if possible, I would like to kill something
deadly with my bare bands. My bare hands and my astonishing beard.

EDIT: I also want to eat the dragons I kill.

Well, let's see Julius Caesar described Celtic warriors going into battle with their hair styled by caking it with lime. (They were nekked, so he knew they had to be male.)

The Hero Cuchulain had his hair braided --sounds like cornrows--before he went into battle.

And as for the Estrus cycle thing: the Men of Ulster in the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T%C3%A1in_B%C3%B3_C%C3%BAailnge were given a curse that they would have birth pangs for five days and five nights in time of crisis.

So, hey, go for it. It's very masculine.

BTW, I think the Tain would make a great RPG.

On 1 trust me todd knows alot of us want nifty houses to make our own.

on 2 one thing id love with banking is to get quests to help ruff up deadbeats and repo homes evict squatters exterminate infestations of monsters... or get quersts from a rival bank to ruin anouther bank by destroying homes and such...

Also would be realy nifty to be able to plunk down 200k and get a big home in a city or plunk down 50000000 and get a tower with a realy cool view or 250 million and get a keep.. or oodles and oddles and buy a citadel with guards and servants and my choice of skantily clad female or male maids;/ Or both...

3 trust me males also get annoyed when they put a sixy looking robe on thier female character and all of a sudden MAN BUNS! grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

This has turned out rather badly with members flaming other members and calling one another trolls....neither allowed under the flaming rules.

People, I could give out a ton of warnings in this thread. Please read the rules of this forum. Such as this one:
http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/724862-forum-rules-and-general-information/
7. Flaming is not allowed.

Insulting individuals or groups of members and name calling are flames. Any remark that is made to insult another member or group of members will be considered a flame and thus you may receive a warning for it.
Calling people a troll or an apologist for instance can both be considered a flame as can calling someone stupid or ADD. Attacking Xbox players, PS3 players or PC players is not allowed and calling them "console kiddies" or in anyway indicating someone is in some way a lesser person because of their choice is considered a flame here.
