Will it be delayed

Hi,

Since the majority of threads are speculative, I'll add my own straw poll.

Will the game be delayed? (Oblivion was)

Doubtful. They wouldn't announce a specific date like 11/11/11 if they didn't think they could get it released in time. Also, the game has been in production for a long time, I imagine most of what will be done between now and November will be polishing.

It's such a specific date, I am saying no, but as I stated earlier, Oblivion had a published date, and that moved late in the day.

I doubt very seriously they would push back the release date.

Most of the game is already done, and people from Bethesda have posted on here multiple times that there is no question that they will make the release date.

It's happened before. Whether or not a developer thinks they can release in time doesn't generally pan out to whether or not a developer does release in time.

Also, the game has been in production for a long time, I imagine most of what will be done between now and November will be polishing.

Similar response. Morrowind was in production for an extremely long time, and was still pushed back after getting a release date. Oblivion was in development for a fairly long (but much shorter) amount of time as well, and the same applies there.

EDIT:
Most of the game is already done, and people from Bethesda have posted on here multiple times that there is no question that they will make the release date.

Source, please. I can't see any modern developer saying anything like that.

There's been too much emphasis on the date, so I think Beth are really on schedule. But I don't care, I'd rather have them make it as good as possible than releasing it on time, if they have to.

Unfortunately, no. Not even if there are critical problems.

It will be pushed to market and a patch waiting on Steam during activation, same as New Vegas.

This is often seen as a solution to the cost associated with pushing back a release. I wish it were otherwise, but as much as I like Bethesda I think they'll push it out the door on schedule regardless of any concerns they have.

How can I vote? I cannot tell the future. Maybe if you asked if I think it would be delayed, perhaps. I don't care if it's delayed. I know that when it comes out it will be a great game, even in 2012.

"Holidays 2005" isn't a specific date. When they finally did announce the date, March 21st, 2006, the game released on time.

I hope it's not delayed and they have it relatively as bug free as it can be for a open world rpg.

Here's one from Nick Breckon. Couldn't find any others.

Oblivion was delayed for different reasons (only have 6 months of development with the actual hardware). Skyrim has an exact and definite launch date. Bethesda will stick to it.

If Skyrim gets delayed, it'll be because of this thread jinksed it.

To early to tell - I think they chose the date because it looked good, and was far enough away, things may change yet, a date announced a year in advance should be easier to make, but at the same time it does not guaranty anyone form finding a huge game breaking but in the last second.

Its one of the Community managers, not a dev, so that might not fit the criteria.

They never set a definite date until they knew they would make that date. "Holidays 2005" isn't specific. If they had said December 21st, then missed the date, I would agree they missed it. But they never gave a specific date until they knew they would make it.

In all their interviews it really seems like they're just in the final stages.

Except that Bethesda (as in Bethesda Game Studios) has pushed back releases to finish them multiple times. New Vegas wasn't pushed back, but it also wasn't developed by Bethesda Game Studios.

Here's one from Nick Breckon. Couldn't find any others.

I hate to use this argument, but... well, Nick Breckon isn't a developer, and his involvement with Bethesda as far as I know is pretty much entirely just to deal with the community. Him saying that the game won't be delayed doesn't carry much weight.

EDIT: Just to clarify: if he were to say "we're finished everything, just voice recording and testing and polishing" or something along those lines, his saying that it's definitely coming out then would be significant. Just him saying that it is without really giving any justification doesn't quite cut it though.
