Colours all funky

Post » Fri Feb 25, 2011 9:28 pm

Have reinstalled Fallout 1&2 on my new computer and the colour display is hmmm what's the word distorted.....sort of. I tried taking a SS to help explain what I mean but for some reason the colour was displayed correctly on it. I'm wondering if my rig could be to good. Because it looked perfect on my old one and I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on what I could do to remedy it.

Here's a few specs off the top of my head (which isn't much to go off :P using the PC with the interwebs at the moment)

Win7
Nvidia GT320
4gb ram

if you want more just tell me and i'll run speccy on it.

its because of win7
Edit the following file in Notepad. Be careful not to save it as ddraw.ini.txt... notepad may try to add the .txt extension for you !!! select All Files from the dropdown list when saving to avoid this.

DDRAW.INI

Look for the section in the file as follows:

;XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
[Graphics]
;Set to 0 for 8 bit fullscreen
;Set to 4 for dx9 fullscreen
;Set to 5 for dx9 windowed
;dx9 modes cause some corruption of movies
;A dx9 mode is required for any graphics related script extender functions to work (i.e. fullscreen shaders)
;Modes 1, 2 and 3 are no longer supported
Mode=0

Now, change "Mode=" to "Mode-4".

Save the file and start the game normally.

Go to C:/Program/Black Isle/ and click the fallout.exe file there, that works for me, but not if I try to use any form of shortcut.
So just have a shortcut to the Black Isle file and then click the .exe, should work, does for me. ;)

Put copies of the Ddraw.ini and the Ddraw.dll files into the Fallout install folder.

That's new... I'm positive that it has worked for me before (but that was a few years ago).

(Ask Killap or anyone @NMA); There is also the http://www.nma-fallout.com/forum/dload.php?action=file&file_id=1075 to be found there. Or http://www.nma-fallout.com/forum/dload.php?action=file&file_id=704.

As a last resort (but it should work) Fallout sells on GOG.com, and they have their own Ddraw.dll in place.
The game runs fine on my Geforce 9800
