This is not a movie. The HUD doesn't get in the way at all, you have PLENTY of room to see around in. This is a game. Without a HUD the only way you could tell if you were about to die is if there's red crap around your screen, but that's not a very accurate representation of your actual health. The health bar shows you exactly how close or how far you are away from death. I want to be able to look down and visually be able to tell I if I have 25% health or 5% health, not varying shades of red and blood covering the outside of my vision. Same goes for magicka and fatigue.
There are plenty of ways to tell how much health you have left without the "red" around your screen. This isn't WoW. There are the ways above explained by hlvr and there are things like blood splatter and what not.
1. The reason 100% of us play video games is for entertainment. I don't play video games for realism, I play video games so I can be entertained and have fun. Realism is okay to a point, taking away the HUD is where I draw a line and say "that's it, no more"
2. Like I said before, blurred vision, heartbeat sounds, etc. wouldn't be a very accurate representation of your health
3. Same thing above can be applied to what you said about magicka

1) Did you know that 100% of the people in the world disagree with this statement? See how misrepresentation of numbers works? An RPG is about RPing and a big aspect of the RP experience is realism. Yes we play games for entertainment but realism in our games makes it MORE entertaining. If you draw the line at no HUD then fine, I guess we won't be seeing you playing Skyrim. I think we will be fine though, the handful of people that quit because they are unhappy with just the idea of Skyrim (and before I go on I'm not saying your wrong, it's your own opinion and your choice if you don't want to play a possibly great game) then the TES game population will be fine seeing as how we will most likely gain exponentially more people with Skyrim than we lose.
2) It doesn't have to be an accurate representation to the number if it even is represented that way. It just has to be a general representation of your health.
3)Every game has had some some sound the represents not being able to cast a spell. I do however think there should be some indication of magicka in some visual way also so that you don't think you have a last ditch effort to finish them and then you find out you have no magicka left.
