They should use the Skyrim theme somewhere else besides the

I always felt that Morrowind and Oblivion's themes were too epic to only be used during the not-so-epic process of loading a savegame or changing a resolution. I think such music should be associated with amazing trailers. Remember the Mass Effect 2 launch trailer with Two Steps from Hell music in it? Except Bethesda has their own, equally epic song that is strongly associated with Elder Scrolls and is perfect for a montage of beautiful landscapes, action sequences and cheesy trailer lines("the end is near, your destiny awaits blah blah blah"). What do you think?

I dunno but Morrowind for me on xbox had the same music during gameplay as on menu.
Sometimes, really, I would pause the game and just listen to the music. till the drums came. Boom-boom. Just to listen really.

It was a dissapointed to me that the epic music from the oblivion menu was not used in the game, as such.

The morrowind theme was used during gameplay also, However thats because it was soft enough to be used there.

The oblivion theme was too epic to be used as an exploration theme, and not fast paced enough to be used for a combat theme, etc.. etc.. etc... thats why it was only used in trailer/main menu/start of game video.

Skyrim's theme is rougher and louder than morrowinds -similar in type to Oblivions, but with Morrowinds melody, they would have to tone it down a notch to use it in game imo. Or make a combat theme variation of it.

They should use it in a freebie downloadable music track file released in the next GI update.

Agree with everything you said except making a combat theme variation of it.

Skyrim's theme should only be used in the main menu if it's that epic :)
It needs to be toned down if it can be used in game.

Where in the game could it possibly be used?
It's just too... Ehm... Extreme? For actual gameplay.

Not a good idea for gameplay. Unless there was a specific instance, like the end game final battle or whatever. I like how these themes are relegated to the main menu only

I hope there are more variations in the music than in Oblivion. I always thought that the music was kind of boring... The same two tunes over and over again... One for when nothing is going on and then another for a battles. In my opinion there needs to be alot more music, different tunes for caves, different towns, ect. that way we don't have to hear the same songs over and over again. Don't get me wrong, I love the Elder Scrolls theme, I just want more variation and more exciting music.

Couldn't you just drop it into the games music folder? That's what I did with Morrowind and Oblivion. I even threw in some remixes of the themes in there. Ones I found good enough to "fit in" anyway(Like no techno stuff or whatever). I'm sure Skyrim will have the same folder.

There were way more than two songs: 8 battle, 5 for dungeons, 5 for in towns, and 9 for exploring the wilderness. Plus the title song and short tunes for death and 'success'. The problem was that they all sounded so....generic? I'm not sure that's the right word, but they didn't really stand out individually.

I assume it will be used in the main menu and the intro. And that's where it should stay... Oh and it should be on the soundtrack that hopefully comes with the collector's edition. :celebration:

If you get the PC version, you may simply copy-paste the file to your explore or combat music.

Gimme gimme gimme music at particular plot points! The main theme would be great for battling dragons, for instance. Or seeing that mountaintop castle/temple in the video for the first time after climbing the many steps. Sure, it's too epic to play whenever a mudcrab crawls towards you, but it would fit real climix moments.

Also, I'm hoping that they'll drastically alter the old combat music / explore music system. It gives an early warning, meaning the player can NEVER get sneak attacked, which is ridiculous. Also, it makes mudcrab / giant rat encounters seem comically over-the-top.

There is a great mod for Oblivion that solves all of this. I love walking through dense forest and suddenly getting shot by arrows*, it makes me jump.

* Not in real life.

Because Jeremy Soule is the composer, once the game goes live there is a good chance that the album for Skyrim will show up on DirectSong, like the albums for Morrowind and Oblivion. Other than that, I hope to hear the main theme during gameplay, like Morrowind. It always felt that much more epic when I heard that theme while doing some epic quest, or anything, really.

i asked pete hines on twitter when we'll be able to hear more of the theme, and he said it shouldn't be too long before we hear more of it in a video or something
