Adding voice samples to a custom race

Post » Wed Mar 02, 2011 10:55 am

Hello,

I am playing a new race in Oblivion and would like to add my own sounds for it, for things like getting hit, power attacks, and such. I've scoured the CS for about an hour now and just don't see an option to create/import voices for new races. I'm sure its something incredibly obvious and that I'm going to feel as dumb as a rock when its pointed out, but in the meantime - any help would be great. I just don't want the new race to sound like the old ones in combat and such.

Thanks in advance!

Check http://cs.elderscrolls.com/constwiki/index.php/Dialogue_Tutorial . You can use the free Audacity-program for recording.

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately that link doesn't really solve the issue I am having, at least not as best I can tell.

To be more specific, I am not trying to add spoken dialogue to NPCs or quests. I am trying to give my player character (custom race) a specific set of voice samples for power attacks, taking damage, and such. I already have the sound samples - what I can't figure out is how the CS assigns voices. When you go to Characters/Races, and select one of the races - you have 2 drop down boxes, Male Voice Race and Female Voice. From there you can select from a list that contains each race in the game, and it will assign those voices.

I am trying to figure out how I can add my race to that list (and from there, assign the sounds), so that her power attacks and damage taken and such play the specific set of sounds I want.

Mods like Cute Elves done this (added their own samples), I just need to figure out how so I can as well. Hope that clears up what I am asking for help with!

You can give custom race voice like this:
1. Make a directory under \Data\Sound\Voice, name it as your plugin. (like \Data\Sound\Voice\MyFirstMod.esp)
2. Make a directory under newly made one. This time, name it as your race. (like: (snip)\MyFirstMod.esp\My Race)
3. Make M and F directories under race. Then the directory structure would be like:
- (Where you installed Oblivion)\Data\Sound\Voice\(Your plugin filename)\(Your race name)\M
- (Where you installed Oblivion)\Data\Sound\Voice\(Your plugin filename)\(Your race name)\F
4. Copy .lip files and .mp3 files. They can be generic battle grunts, or dialogues like greeting, quest related lines.
5. Actually, you can skip 1. Instead, make directory named Oblivion.esm, then do 2~4.
