Faction Loyalty

Post » Thu Mar 03, 2011 5:10 pm

Hey everyone. Kind of an old topic, but I was wondering about faction loyalty again, now that the release date is getting closer. I've been playing Killzone 3 for a while, and while the story emphasizes faction loyalty (you either love one side or you hate it, at least for my and my clan mates), but the multiplayer makes you play as both sides. This is very similar to the situation in Brink, where faction loyalty is strongly emphasized. I've not heard if you get to choose which team you play on before a map (think private matches from CoD), or if it chooses for you (Like Killzone). I'm hoping it's the former, but it's not a game breaker for me. What have you guys heard or seen?

When you make your character you have to choose whether you are Security or Resistance.

Don't you also have to create two outfits, one for each faction?

It would be [censored] to let you choose which faction you want to play as exclusively, because most people will obviously pick the resistance, due to the more 'quirky' and less 'gimpy' outfits. The result would be people not getting games, or severely unbalanced teams.

Actually no. You choose the outfits you will use for both factions. You can play as both with the same character.

Also since the game is like a single player. How would you play a single player? You choose the campaign YOU want. So presumably you can always choose resistance because you get to choose what campaign you want to play.

No you don't. Each character has a look for both sides.

Stop being so close minded people, it's just attack and defense with a good story behind it. If you even intent to play slightly competitively, be sure that you WILL HAVE TO play both sides, because stopwatch requires you to.

I'm not being close minded, if you actually READ my post, i believe i said it's not a game breaker for me, I'm simply HOPING you can choose. It does make sense though, with the developers making such a big deal about "you get to choose which side is good or evil" that you can "choose which side" you want to play as. K, thanks.

well maybe it's like he was saying Dys maybe you make your char for both sides choose one of 16 and than in Menu choose which multi-player campaign you want it'll than auto select a game with best numbers for your team so there's no 6-1 ratio's?... just a thought.

^^ This is what i was thinking. Like in CoD (MW2), in private mmatches, at first you get to pick which faction you play as, but if you take too long, or if too many people join one team, than it will auto join you to the team with less players. Thanks Creed.

I was just commenting in general, not to you in particular. That's why you shouldn't have attacked me personally by implying that I didn't READ your post.

I also know how it works in MP and I know that after a while Freemode becomes more popular than campaign. (Believe me, it will. --> W:ET had this as well) And in freemode, you just don't stick with the same side like in campaign mode.

Did I already mention that you miss half of the game/fun when you play only one side?

My bad, I misinterpreted your response.

And I'm not saying faction loyalty is mandatory (MAG), just that you should have a choice, so people who want to get into the storyline can.

I thought this thread would go well after reading the OP, but then ...
When you make your character you have to choose whether you are Security or Resistance.

Anyway, I've been trying over and over again to make people understand that the factions in BRINK are very similar to the factions in every multiplayer-focused shooter-game. The faction-thing is, as OP said, very emphasized, but not so important.

Sorry new guy but your wrong. Like not even close to being right. You make an outfit for each faction. Please don't confuse people with wrong answers.

Don't you also have to create two outfits, one for each faction?

Your right don't worry.

Quite easy to work around, my friend. And I made my alts before they introduced 2 extra character slots for a monthly fee.

Anyway, as far as I can tell you create the character (permanent details such as face, voice and tattoos) and this character has 2 different appearances - you can customize their clothing/apparel for play with both Security and Resistance... obviously the game will pick the appropriate set-up for whichever side's campaign you play in.
