Door teleportation question.

Post » Fri Mar 04, 2011 1:32 am

So this is a pretty easy one i guess but..I just cant figure it out...
So I got a ladder that should lead to a higher spot in just the same cell. But when I say teleport and then want to select reference (which would be the same ladder) in object window i cant select the ladder...
So how can I manage this? Of course when you activate the ladder again it should lead back down...

Thanks for your help :)

Howdy. :)

You can't teleport from an object to another spot on the same object, you need 2 teleport "door" objects to conduct a teleport. What you could to do is make 2 ladders (one on top of the other), you can make them appear as one ladder if you wish by stacking them end-over-end. Then make both of them teleport doors and it should work great. When you select the opposite "door" reference and double-click the 2nd ladder, you'll see the two yellow teleport markers near each ladder (indicating where the player/NPC appears), and you can move these around accordingly.

Thanks for that mate :)
The problem is just that the upper ladder would "break" through the ceiling of the house and you′d see that... :(
EDIT: I will try the following: I just place two ladders at exactly the same spot, and make one of them initially disabled ( =Ladder01 ). When you activate the enabled Ladder ( =Ladder02) it gets diasabled and the other one gets enabled. All of that will repeat the other way round when Ladder01 is enabled, activated and then disabled and Ladder02 gets enabled.
I′ll try that and report^^

I have never personally seen teleporting doors work in this way, I have only seen them used to move between two cells.

I use this method on occassion, it works very nicely to move to a different section in the same cell.

Yeah that will work nicely, I use the method many times in my own cells. As WillieSea mentioned, its a very handy way of moving the player around in the same cell. I also use a similar version heavily in my elevators, many of which have two stops (2 floors) in the same cell - which requires lots of in-cell-teleporting. Same rules apply for what your trying to do as would apply for any two teleport doors.

Just a little note of warning. I had a lot of trouble with NPCs trying to use just the arrangement you are describing. For the most part NPCs, followers, etc. could almost never successfully use my ladder/teleport. Occasionally they were able to pathfind down through the ladder, but were never able to pathfind up. I tried many, many different ways to get it work, but in the end had to eliminate them from my mod. Granted, this was all in an exterior cell. Perhaps there won't be such troubles for interior ones.
