I would absolutely love to hear this song in the opening sequence of a Fallout game. Melancholy and bleakly hopeful and the only song I can think of that rivals "Maybe" by The Ink Spots in appropriateness for the setting.

I had a hard time picking one song, but these 3 songs by Megadeth sum up Fallout for me

Megadeth- Rust in Peace http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3hVqpjZ8qWM

Rust in Peace... Polaris

(Music, lyrics: Mustaine)

Tremble you weaklings, cower in fear
I am your ruler, land, sea and air
Immense in my girth, erect, I stand tall
I am a nuclear murderer, I am Polaris

Ready to pounce at the touch of a button
My systems locked in on military gluttons
I rule on land, air, and sea
Pass judgment on humanity
Winds blow from the bowels of hell
Will we get warning? Only time will tell
Satan rears his ugly head to spit into the wind

I spread disease like a dog
Discharge my payload a mile high
Rotten egg air of death wrestles your nostrils
Launch the Polaris, the end doesn't scare us
When will this cease?
The warheads will all rust in peace!

Bomb shelters filled to the brim
Survival such a silly whim
World leaders sell missiles cheap
Your stomach turns, your flesh creeps

High priest of holocaust, fire from the sea
Nuclear winter spreading disease
The day of final conflict all will pay the price
The third world war raqes peace, takes life

Back to the start, talk of the part
When the earth was cold as ice
Total dismay as the sun passed away
And the days were black as night

Dawn Patrol

(Music, lyrics: Mustaine, Ellefson)

Thermal count is rising
In perpetual writhing
The primordial ooze
And the sanity they lose

Awakened in the morning
To more air-pollution warnings
Still we sleepwalk off to work
As our nervous systems jerk

Pretending not to notice
How history has forbode us
With the greenhouse in effect
Our environment is wrecked

Now I can only laugh
As I read our epitaph
We end our lives as moles
In the dark of the dawn patrol

Countdown to Extinction

(Music, lyrics: Mustaine, Ellefson, Menza, Friedman)

Endangered species, caged in fright,
Shot in cold blood, no chance to fight.
The stage is set, now pay the price.
And ego boost, don't think twice.
Technology, the battle's unfair,
You pull the hammer without a care.
Squeeze the trigger that makes you Man,
Pseudo-safari, the hunt is canned...
The hunt is canned

All are gone, all but one.
No contest, nowhere to run.
No more left, only one.
This is it, this is the countdown to extinction

Tell the truth, you wouldn't dare.
The skin and trophy, oh so rare.
Silence speaks louder than words.
Ignore the guilt and take your turn.
Liars anagram is "lairs,"
Man you were never even there.
Killed a few feet from the cages,
Point blank, you're so courageous...
So courageous

"One hour from now,
Another species of life form
Will disappear from the face of the planet
Forever... And the rate is accelerating."

Hmm....heres a few that come to mind right away.....

Tool: Schism

"I know the pieces fit 'cause I watched them fall away
Mildewed and smoldering. Fundamental differing.
Pure intention juxtaposed will set two lovers souls in motion
Disintegrating as it goes testing our communication
The light that fueled our fire then has burned a hole between us
So
We cannot seem to reach an end crippling our communication."

Tool: ?nema

"Some say the end is near.
Some say we'll see armageddon soon.
I certainly hope we will.
I sure could use a vacation from this

[censored] three ring circus sideshow of
Freaks

Here in this hopeless [censored] hole we call LA
The only way to fix it is to flush it all away.
Any [censored] time. Any [censored] day.
Learn to swim, I'll see you down in Arizona bay.

Fret for your figure and
Fret for your latte and
Fret for your hairpiece and
Fret for your lawsuit and
Fret for your prozac and
Fret for your pilot and
Fret for your contract and
Fret for your car.

It's a
[censored] three ring circus sideshow of
Freaks"

Joy Division: Interzone

"I walked through the city limits,
Someone talked me in to do it,
Attracted by some force within it,
Had to close my eyes to get close to it,
Around a corner where a prophet lay,
Saw the place where she'd had a room to stay,
A wire fence where the children played
Saw the bed where the body lay,
And I was looking for some friends of mine.
And I had no time to waste.
Yeah, looking for some friends of mine.

Down the dark streets, the houses looked the same,
Getting darker now, faces look the same,
And I walked round and round.
No stomach, torn apart,
Nail me to a train.
Had to think again,
trying to find a clue, trying to find a way to get out!
Trying to move away, had to move away and keep out."

I know a lot more that would probably be better fits than these, but I dont want to take up to much space with all the lyrics.

"Punk: Welcome To Oblivion by Madina Lake

That's all i can think of now, i know you said just one song but i can't do it! I just know i will think of more and i will have to post them."

Yeah, uhm, Madina Lake isnt punk....Punk is: six Pistols, Ramones, Iggy & the Stooges (duh), Joy Division, Dropkick Murphys, The Clash, Johny Thunders and the Heart Breakers. Just because your MTV says that all that Green Day crap is Punk doesnt mean it is. I mean honestly "American Idiot"?!?!! Thats your idea of punk? please.......

Oh yeah, and The End by The Doors. Somebody already said that one but its a great song and it fits in Fallout well.

Excuse me if I am being an A hole, but I cant stand to have punk acossiated with that emo garbadge that it is so often nowadays, sad when you know more about music at age 13 than most people do at 20, no?

I understand what you believe you know. Terms evolve and change over time. Punk now isn't what it was 20 years ago. The band has other influences but the strongest theme in it is punk, that is the genre you will find it listed under. I guarantee you i have had more classes on music theory and composition than you have. This isn't a pissing contest, no one needs to be right here. You can dislike the music all you want. You can use pejorative terms and anologies, but be aware that your superiority complex is showing.

That was the smartest thing anybody has ever said, ever! The End is the perfect song for Fallout! Im gonna go ahead and declare this the best response on this thread.

Did you see Gizmos' choice? I thought that was the best contender in terms of spirit and accuracy.

Lyrics:

Have no fear
For when I'm alone
I'll be better off than I was before

I've got this light
I'll be around to grow
Who I was before
I cannot recall

Long nights allow me to feel...
I'm falling...I am falling
The lights go out
Let me feel
I'm falling
I am falling safely to the ground
Ah...

I'll take this soul that's inside me now
Like a brand new friend
I'll forever know

I've got this light
And the will to show
I will always be better than before

Long nights allow me to feel...
I'm falling...I am falling
The lights go out
Let me feel
I'm falling
I am falling safely to the ground
