Player Character Head/Hair mesh

Post » Mon Mar 07, 2011 9:35 pm

Hi Folks,

Hope this is an easy one. Newb here.

After exhaustive google-ing, I really can't find any way of finding out the information I need. Basically, I want to find out the exact mesh files that I use for my characters head and hair. I can do this for NPCs by firing up the CS and looking, but I'm pretty stumped on how to do this for the actual PC in my save. I have BB and a head mod, so I'm pretty sure of the body mesh, and I can guess that the head and hair meshes will be included with the Head mod, but how do I view the individual heads/hairs to find the exact filename?

Am I being silly and not thinking about this the right way? Obviously the CS only fires up the mod(s), and doesn't take into account the save game or player character etc.

Am I just reduced to taking a screenshot of my PC, and trying to wade through all the meshes in my Data Files (could I view them with nifskope??) trying to match it up?

I'm pretty new to the inner workings of Morrowind, but I'm getting there, slowly. Perhaps I'm not looking at this the right way..

Any help would be very much appreciated.

The Construction Set and I are not friends, but I get along fine with Enchanted Editor for things like this. YMMV, of course.

I open a recent save file, and browse to Non Player Characters > NPC_player. The head info is under 'HeadID' and the hair, under 'HairID'.

Thanks!

I'll give this a shot when I'm back in front of my PC. It is actually the PC, rather than NPC that I'm trying to find out, but I'm sure the same process will be correct.

I shall let you know how I get on.

'NPC_ player' is the PC - that's how the game stores it in the save file. ;)

I see! Well, you learn something new every day. Is it not a bit strange to name the player character what is essentially Non-Player-Character_Player?? Or does NPC mean something different in this case?

Anyway, just about to give this Enchanted Editor a whirl!

Thanks again!

Yep. That's why I included the drill-down path to access the info... because it is strange.

Well I did get what I was looking for in the end, Thanks!

In some, but not all cases, the headID and hairID did not match up (in terms of file name) with the actual .nif file. A bit of searching within the CS with the info EE provided got me exactly what I was looking for.

Thanks very much for your help theskymoves and tetchy!
