In light of Skyrims release next year, i wanted to go back to Oblivion.

Although I remember something from a site or something about unpacking the BSA files and just letting Oblivion use the raw files.

Is it an advantage in anyway?

Depending on your PC, unpacking the BSA files inside your Oblivion/Data folder could significantly slow down loading times.
