Hi, I just spent a couple days of my life beating Fallout 3, and Fallout: New Vegas wanted more, so I got Fallout 1. Its pretty much what I expected, but I am having a difficulty early on in the game. Finding the rope! I read on the fallout wiki
a that rope can be found in Shady Sands, in a bookcase, I only have seen and searched 3 bookcases. Am I missing one? Can anyone tell me where to find the rope? Help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Pretty sure it can be bought in shady sands from one of the first people you meet, or pickpocketed.

There is also some rope on the floor of the tool shed on the farm map along with a sledge hammer.
