Fallout 4

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 1:23 am

It may be a bit early for this seeing as Fallout 3 just came out but seeing as I'm sure there is going to be a fallout 4 I just want to know what people think about where the story could go next.

It may just be me but a lot of the story in Fallout 3 seemed contrived. Like I suppose the reasons for why super mutants and the Enclave still exist and are on the east coast seem plausible but I feel like they did it just to show off. Like "its Fallout in 3-D! See what fighting the enemies from the first games would have been like!!!" It seemed like Bethseda was afraid to go too far from ideas from the original games. I understand why since Fallout fans complained over the slightest changes and I have no idea what they would have done if Bethseda added a new enemy but because of this it felt like Fallout 3 was just a collection of recycled ideas from the first two games in FPP.

So it seems like the Super-mutant and Enclave ideas have been completely played out and there is no logical way to bring them back for a fourth game so where should the story go from here? Who should the next enemy be?

My personal idea is that it should be set back on the West coast but with enough time having passed so Bethseda would not be too constrained by what happened in Fallout 2. I imagine things would be going well on the west coast with the NCR having brought order to the wastes and the G.E.C.K having made at least part of the waste grow again. But hows this for an enemy?

The Chinese.

After all, even though they have been mentioned alot no one has actually talked about what their government or technology was like. Maybe the Chinese were not as damaged as the U.S and managed to rally and are coming to finish what the great war started? Maybe their technology has evolved down a completly diferent path from our power armor and energy wepons? I think you could do a lot with a plot like that. Like maybe they could have a cyborg army or something.

Well, these are my ideas and opinions, what does everyone else think about Fallout 3's story and where it can go from here? Minimum Fallout 3 spoilers please.

I want to see Washington's Expedition for the Liberty Bell.

I would like to see a Philly/Camden/Burlington County/Gloucester city area.

Would like Pittsburgh but from what kodiak tells you the City was pretty [censored] up before the BoS cleared the whole city.

We've seen the West coast, Midwest, & now the East coast. I'd like to see what PA Europe looks like.

Also, what's 50's sci-fi without some space exploration?

A Moon base or 'Star Lost' like scenario would rock.

The place for part 4 could be i.e. Canada, some years in the future. NCR is aggressively spreading all over the continent in search for fertile land for the growing population. BoS has turned into their heavy armoured elite strike force. It could be like antique Rome, with a high-tech heartland and low-tech provinces. Then there comes an overpowered foe (like evolved Chinese) fighting the NCR for the same reasons. It could be like Rome vs. Karthago, you in the middle between and choosing your side (Ch., NCR, your own). Society could be like in mediaevel times and/or antiquity.

what about alaska? There's been fallouts full of deserts, why not snow? Plus, there's bound to be some us army weapons cache and crap from where you can get power armor. Maybe even descendants of the us army like the BOS. :o The chinese as the enemy would fit in as well.

One set on the shores of the great lakes, I suppose? Lots of swimming/fishing/floating junkpile cities and the like?

I definitely agree with the Europe thing. Maybe Germany or Russia?

Canda's a good bet, considering sometimes in mailboxes you can find letters from Vault-Tec pointing out the opening of Vaults in newly annexed Canada (And really, what's Fallout without at least one Vault-Tec Vault?).

And I think the Chinese are a solid bet, given the amount of Chinese manufactured armaments that have turned up in Fallout 3. Though obviously you couldn't just call them Chinese. Maybe The Dynasty?

We also have the Commonwealth "up north".

Or, what happened to the people associated with the nearly complete space ship? The one the vaults were all psychological tests for?

Perhaps, the Enclave finds them, and creates a new nefarious plan that involves finishing the ship with the idea of getting into orbit and renuking the planet. The Wanderer of that story could reunite the east and west, to reform the United States.

Idea two: Drop 'em in West Texas. Then, you could have rangers, super-brahmin riding super mutants, and a ghoul cooking beans.

I get what you are saying about Super Mutants and the old enemies, and I agree to an extent, but at the same time, they are the Fallout enemies. It wouldn't seem right not having them around. It would seem like Mario without the koppas.

That said, new enemies would be good, too. Perhaps we could be in a new area where Super Mutants have just arrived and are not in great numbers. Perhaps the Enclave drove them there in an attempt to wipe them out or something. Thing is, when they get there, they find the area is already inhabited by something we haven't encountered yet.

Actually, now that I think about it, I kind of like that idea. Basically, the Enclave shows up only to find new mutants and another "government" set up. But the Enclave being the Enclave decides they must "purify" the area. With the state of communications, it would be feasible to have parts of the country that have been cut off and have just done the best on their own. (Without the Enclave or Brotherhood or Washington. Essentially, making their own lawkeepers and militias and such.) Perhaps the Brotherhood did send people there in the early days, but lost contact, so this Brotherhood has developed slightly differently than the main Brotherhood.

Meh, I know that might not make much sense, but I'm just "thinking out loud." Take everything I say here as such, but who knows. Maybe I'll have something.

As for location, it definitively needs to be in America. The 50s Americana feel is a staple of the Fallout series and there's no reason to abandon it, especially since Vault-Tec is an American company that hasn't expanded outside the U.S. (Especially given the story. No spoilers though. )

I'd like to go south, perhaps to Texas and the upper area of Mexico, maybe with a few Louisiana bayous. I think the bayou would actually be wonderful to see Post Apocalyptic, given the creatures that live there and the general look of them. How about some F.E.V. Alligators?

So, something new: yes, but not at the expense of the roots of the series.
