RP: The Last of the Ayleids

Post » Sat Mar 12, 2011 4:51 am

Alright, so I've had this idea floating around my head for a while now. From what I understand, most of these RP's are either vampires or zombies, and a few creative minor ones.

My goal is to create a creative RP based on the last days of Ayleid rule. Now before you go headlong into complaining about my lack of planning, I'll tell you this:There will be two planning stages in this RP, the first (this one) will be a basic construct of the plot, characters, locations, etc. The second will be high detail work. Here's the idea, make sure to give your ideas and feedback:

You, the RPer, will be playing as either the Ayleids, or St. Alessia's forces (you will decide either Ayleids, St. Alessia, or both). The Ayleids are in a time of massive civil war (so it is possible for RPers to be Ayleids, but face eachother). St. Alessia, taking advantage of the civil war, has started an uprising (you will fight the Ayleids, and sometimes make alliances with Ayleid Lords against others). Ayleids will be divided, so it is up to you to choose a Lord to serve under, but anyone under St. Alessia will be on the same faction. Ayleids will be located at any specific or imagined locations (open for discussion), yet St. Alessia will be centered around encampments, old structures, temporary settlements/forts etc. (up for discussion). The races of the forces is entirely up to you guys to think of and decide, but Ayleids must follow a unique Elfish sort of character (something very closely related to High Elf race). St. Alessia must be mortal races (no beasts), but you can modify some races slightly.

Edit:
It's also up to you guys to decide wether you want this a political, war, or simple character RP, or even combinations.

Why exactly am I leaving all this for you to decide? Not because I'm lazy, but I think people should get a chance to use their imagination more, not just basic follow-the-story-or-die.
I also aim to put some originality back into these forums, and give people a chance to explore something they might not have thought of themselves.

Its a good idea since the time of the Aylieds is relatively unexplored by forums RP's or fanfictions. Theres alot of conflict and back story and just as many key characters (Pelinal whitestrake, Umaril the unfeathered, St. Allesia etc).

The problem is execution, the only settlement that we know existed in that Era is the white gold tower, or so that is my understanding, perhaps I have missed something. So we would have to work on a new map marking out Aylied cities and human/mortal settlements. But a few questions first, will this be a war rp where we control many and direct them into battle or will we simply be playing as those few heroes or warriros who rose up to fight or defended themselves during the war?

And why no beastfolk? Beastmen pre-date man as far as I know, so they are deffinately around to be used.

That's why this RP isn't exactly by-the-book, White Gold tower is the easiest Ayleid settlement to recognize, but there are ruins all over Cyrodiil, some great, and some not so much. We could use pre-existing Cyrodiil (minus the present cities) and re-create the ruins of the old Ayleid ruins.

As for the beast question, I'm saying that Beasts cannot be played by you, as neither Ayleids or St. Alessia had any in their culture. However, this does not mean beasts can't be included with the main RP.

And as for the war question, it's totally up to the feedback I'm getting to decide that.

Well first of all i'd drop the beast rule. Personally I'd want to RP an Aylied of some sort, but theres lots of people on the forum who might not want to be restricted like that, even if they dont end up using a beast race.

To be perfectly clear this time, Ayleids aren't any form of beasts, unlike those Aurorans you encountered in the Knights of the Nine Questline (which are probably just Elfves anyways). They are, in fact, a form of Elf (very similar to the High Elf race). When I say beast, I mean Minotaurs, Dremora (which haven't been revealed to the world yet anyways) and so on and so forth.

I think your misunderstand me, I know perfectly well what Aylieds are, Aurorans are Daedra from meridia's (or mephala i dont remember which) realm. And by Beast, yes minotaurs are beast, Dremora are not, they are Daedra just like Aurorans. When i say beast i mean Khajiit and Orc and Argonian, all origionally slave races along with the Men, so it probably wouldnt be uncommon to find them amongst the slaves of that era.

Disregarding a lot of the problems with this, I can tell you this will be difficult. I have been toying with the idea for a long time now (along with Peleus), and we haven't found a good way to make it work yet. Now, there are two ways to proceed: say to heck with lore and go based on your own ideas, or try to be as realistic as possible given the heavily biased and usually inaccurate books of the time.

Now, the Ayleids are really specifically named, nor is their culture fully fleshed out, so you can have a grand old time free thinking with them. But when you get to the human side, there are multiple accounts you can follow. One says that the whole thing was orchestrated by the Aedra, using Alessia as a prophet and Pelinal and Morihaus as kind of demi-gods. Or you can say that it was all human, with Morihaus freeing Alessia from her slave camp, and then the two meeting up with Pelinal by chance one day in camp. Or you can go half god- half human.

One thing though, you have to take the bare facts from the lore. Most stories are not going to be accurate, so read them, and decide what was the most likely thing to happen. One account says Pelinal was a time travelling incarnation of Akatosh and Lorkhan with a hole in his chest and a left hand made of light. What I took from that is that he was wise, if a little unstable, that had a scar over his heart and cast spells with his left hand. They say Morihaus was a half bull demigod of Kyne who had powers of the wind goddess. I think he was a Nord who worshipped Kyne, was a Tongue, and was really big.

I can't remember all the stuff we had planned out, but you should be able to piece much of the war together from lore books. I can help a little on the weekends and over thanksgiving if you'd like.

I've always wanted to do this, and if it does kick off I so call being Morihaus :P

True, we have spent quite a few hours planning this. I am still interested to do it some day but the lore needs to be patched up so the background is firm for everybody. I am planning a fan fiction to do this, but I am currently working on something else. When my current project is done, I will concentrate on this one.

If this RP kicks off, I will be reading regularly to see its process.

I'll join and I'll be an Ayleid. Next to the Dunmer they were my favorite race.

EDIT: Actually I'm going to what what Peleus mentioned and observe the rp for a bit, then jump in if its going well. But i have dibs on being king of Vilverin! :P

I myself had an Aylied RP planned long ago, I had everything worked out, the story we would be working with and the mechanics and scale of it. There where just a few details which needed clarifying and smoothing out so I turned to the lore forums and my questions where never answered, it just some how ended up turning into a discussion about Pelinal being TES's answer to the termiator.... As per usual

Yeah well before this thread turns into a discussion, I'd like to remind you that this is an idea, and ideas are really welcome, pointing out everything i'm doing wrong not so much (it builds character though)

Fortunately Ideas are born from discussion. Take heed of the advice people give you.
