Prologue


It had been days since they had seen any sort of civilization at all, and been two days since their water had long run dry. Joshua and Nicholas had been friends for years, and always stuck together. They'd been in some serious situations, but this was the worst they had seen in a very long time. The pair had left from a small town they had been resting in for the past few weeks called Goodsprings, and headed out east, past the NCR's protection area and even past the Legions vast reach. The pre-war maps they had on them said that they were close to Mesa Verde. That was a good thing at least, they had been hoping to go there and learn from the tribals there, who were quite civilized, and had a good knowledge of science. Both Nick and Josh could read, write, preform math up to Algebra 2, and were quite intelligent compared to others they had met along their travels. Hungry and thirst, the pair had depleted their stores of food and water, and were desperate to find some source of sustenance. They had resorted to drinking their urine to stay hydrated, but they both know that after a few days of that they would start to suffer some serious problems from that.
Nicholas was wearing a full set of reinforced leather armor and Joshua wore a set of MK 1 combat armor he had gotten from some traders caravan they found on the road the other day, it had been robbed and ransacked, but whoever did it left the combat armor and a few hunting rifles. Now, this was quite odd, as who in their right mind would just leave some perfectly good armor, and some still functioning rifles just laying there! Especially after they had gone through the trouble of jumping the caravan in the first place... it was probably some jet junkies, strung out just looking for a thrill.
As they walked along, with nothing but their gear, which consisted of some pans and pots for cooking, their bedrolls, guns and ammo, and some other basic things, in the distance they saw a shack!
As Nick took his binoculars out to get a better look, he said
"Hey Josh, I think we just found some water up ahead, or at least a cool place to sleep for the night! I see a shack up ahead, but I can't tell if anybodies living in it, just in case we should get our rifles ready." said Nick
"Yeah, that sounds like a good idea, but remember, don't look hostile, just have your weapon ready, we don't need them shooting at us thinking we're raiders or even worse, legion recruits looking for some 'infidels' to kill." Josh said.
What they would find was anything but normal....
