[REQz] [IDEA] Leveling Overhaul a la Oblivion

Post » Sat Mar 12, 2011 10:46 am

Now, while I know this isnt for everyone, as many of the mods for oblivion made leveling more like this. However, I was wondering if it's possible to reverse the course on that and bring it over to this end?

For instance, the more you shoot your missle launcher, the more chance you have of raising your Big Guns and if Big Guns is one of your tag skills, then the closer you get to leveling. With all the things to kill, and all the annoyances over how quick it is to level sans the slower leveling mods; i thought this may be an interesting alternative, were it possible.

Love to hear some thoughts on this.

That sounds like an interesting idea, though I wouldn't use it myself I think, I liked Oblivion and I loved Morrowind but the current system feels more right for fallout for me personally, I guess because it's consistent in the series...That's just my opinion though and it's a good idea :tops:

I think you could attach a script to every gun to add a certain amount of points to your skill if you shoot it but I think the lowest amount you can add to a skill is 1 so you could max out your skills at level 1

Could just create some globals so that every shot fired adds x to the global, and when that global reaches y you get a skill increase of 1. Would imagine it might be quite CPU hungry trying to script it for every thing that you involves a skill though.

You might want to look at thishttp://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1071941-smooth-leveling-possible-in-fallout. Quite a bit of conversation.

I think it could be done similar to how Oblivion XP is done except instead of general experience the experience you get would be based on the skill you were using to get it.

Regarding the skill use detection, the demo plugin I posted in that other thread should already pretty much cover that though it would still need some tweaking.

I like this idea, i much prefer Oblivion's system over this "Kill a Super Mutant and get better at lockpicking" thing. That other thread had some pretty interesting ideas, hopefully one or more will become a working mod :)
