Skyrim Weather

Oblivion gave us sunshine, light showers, thunderstorms, snow (sorta) and more.

We can obviously expect it to snow in Skyrim. We've been told to expect a much improved treatment of snowfall over Oblivion. But one wonders how much variety we'll see... Will we get heavy blizzards and light flurries and drizzle and sleet? I am holding out hope for all of these and more...

I'd really love it if they'd give us some kind of Northern Lights phenomenon, too, maybe in the upper most regions. Something that really dazzles and amazes.

Aurora Borealis? Awesome idea. Might as well throw in some meteor showers :) Never liked weather in OB. Too random'ish over the spectrum, I prefer distributed randomness that favors nice weather. Light rain should also be fairly common. Heavy rain not that common. And thunderstorms fairly rare (especially along the northern coast, but could happen - where I live we have maybe 5 days in the year with thunderstorms, so it's way too frequent in the game, in ALL games). Also changes from severe clear weather to light rain should be very gradual. I'd even go as far as separating between steady rain and rain showers (stratus vs cumulus). Powerful elemental spells to affect it would also be welcome. AI should try seek shelter (within reason naturally) and dress according to weather.

I'd like to see whiteout effects caused by snow blizzards, but I want them to be rare compared to normal snowing. Much more gradual changes in precipitation too, from very light and fluffy and severe snowing, but whiteouts only in mountains with severe snowing and high winds. Thunderstorms could deliver heavy rain, hail, and even hail stones on the rare occasion.

These are all great suggestions. I particularly like the idea of allowing elemental magic to affect whether- and weather to affect AI behavior. A lot of interesting possibilities for crowd control under such conditions!

Your comment about occasional whiteout conditions within mountainous areas also brings to mind another possibility- which seems less likely (but would still kick ass)... Avalanches- triggered accidentally or on purpose- in areas where heavy snowfall has accumulated on steep slopes.

I'm sure whatever they come up with will be fantastic. Can't wait!

Lots of fog. And dark clouds. but at the same time, serene beauty

Occasional hailstorms that ever-so-slightly injure you over time.
