Alternate Building Entrances?

Ok, so here you are, playing a thief, trying to sneak around and break into houses to steal stuff. Well, to do that in past Elder Scrolls games, you have to march through the front door. Am I the only one who finds this extremely unrealistic? What kind of thief walks up to the front of a house where everybody can see you?

I think Bethesda should implement alternate ways to get into buildings. These could be as simple as back doors, or more complicated, like being able to break open windows or scale walls to balconies. Either way, I think there should be something a bit more immersive.

Do you think this is a problem, and if so, what means should be used to fix it?

I think the window idea good, and maybe more places will have basemants.

I would really like to see this. My entire first game of Oblivion was just me playing a thief. The windows are a good call. I liked the old basemant entrances in houses. Those helped. Wall climb skill? Pretty please? With a cherry on top?

I would also state as an aside that I would really like to see enhanced support for thief play in this edition of the series. Thieving and the associated quests were my favorite part of Oblivion. I want to do that kind of thing again and more of it.

Chimneys. Jumping from roof to roof to get at them would actually give a reason for acrobatics to be counted amongst the stealth skills, which always felt alittle artificial to me.

Windows as entrances for thieves are a really good idea.

I hope it's in although I doubt it.

If the game has levitation in it, you should be able to break into houses that have balconies...

In Oblivion, though, some houses in the Imperial City had entrances to the sewers in their basemants, not sure why, though, maybe people just go into the sewers to... you know? But anyway, it was an alternate entrance for thieves. It only worked in the Imperial City, though, since none of the other cities have sewers.

I'm in favor of adding more alternate ways to get into houses, though, within reason, of course, it would certainly encourage players to be more creative with thefts rather than just entering through the front door all the time.

I remember running around breaking into houses in Mournhold, stealing everything I could, when suddenly I walk in one door and some lady is like "WTF are you doing in my house?".
That was the first time I'd thought, hang on how come this woman is the only one who cares about me barging in, and moreover, why is my acrobat type character using the front door anyway?

I like this. Windows is a good idea. I am also thinking more balconies or rooftop windows of some sort maybe? :ninja:
