New Manhattan Thread 6

OOC: @Zerker,

YOU CANNOT JUST WALTZ IN THERE.

You have to through the gate, give them all of your weapons, then you have to enter the hotel, ask the receptionist to call Justin, then Justin gives you the Ok. Then once he gives you the ok, you have to enter A WELL SECURE ELEVATOR, then go up, then enter his office.

REDO the entire post.

OOC: I’m slightly confused as to what the time is. I believe Alex mentioned it being approximately 6am, so I assume it’s okay in this post to have Adams waking up in the morning?

Adams’s eyes struggled open against the scintillating light. He rolled out of his soft bed and rubbed his dry eyes, picking out the rheum which had accumulated around his tear ducts. Slapping his cheeks, the Colonel lumbered over to the mailbox.

A single letter resided in the mailbox. Adams ripped through the envelope, discarding it carelessly on the floor, and skimmed over the contents. A broad smile crept across his face – the terms appeared to heavily favour the Enclave’s needs and goals.

Adams picked up his handheld radio and contacted the President, still fighting for attentiveness as he did so.

“Mr. President, do you receive me? Over.” Adams fell on the bed, before he heard the distinctive roar of a vertibird’s engines. The Colonel instantly paced over to the window. Can’t be ours.

Suddenly, a tiltwing aircraft swooped past Adams’s window. “What the…”

OOC: Since that last Zeker post was, well, not canonical, this post will be of the vertibird arriving.

Alexander Scalatti

As Alex handed the document to Justin, he heard a roar of a helicopter. It kept getting closer and closer. Enclave? BOS? No...the GP!

Alex reached into his suit to make sure his gun was in easy reach. "Justin, I think that the GP is coming here."

OOC: I think until Dark rewrites his post we shouldn't mention the Vertibird Chris, it'll just distract.

Sutler had, of course, arisen early that morning and was enjoying a glass of water and a morning cigarette in his office; he was looking over Eyebot Scout reports whilst Johann Straus's http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YZL-25906Oc played in the background on his holotape player. A click from his radio made him snap out of focus before switching off the tape player and answering.

“Mr. President, do you receive me? Over.”

"Afermative Colonel, what do you have to report? Over."

OOC: Bleh, I’ve mentioned it now, so I can’t be assed to change it. I assume Snowe’s still arriving via vertibird, but just… differently.

The President’s voice forced Adams back to focus.

“As expected, Mieux proposed an alliance. He’s drawn up the terms on a written contract. I’ll present the hard copy when I arrive, but the terms are simple; they scratch our back, we scratch theirs. The Enclave, which is hereby recognised as the United States Government, will be provided with financial aid amongst other goods such as experimental devices. Our soldiers are also entitled to treat Arcadia as their own personal holiday home, should you wish they take a vacation.” Adams quickly looked the contract up and down once more. “Yes, that pretty much covers it. Remember, these contracts are held together by the principle of pacta sunt servanda – failure to comply nullifies all deals of either party.”

Adams paused briefly to chug a small glass of water; his mouth felt dirty. “Now, I don’t know about you, but I fail to see the disadvantages of the alliance. In these troubled times, it helps to have friends, Mr. President. Your signature is all that’s needed to complete the process. Our binding will increase our strength, I assure you.”

“Anyway, in response to your previous concerns, Mieux has made it perfectly clear he has no true affiliations with any organisations settled in New Manhattan and the Empire Wasteland beyond. He signed a contract with the GP, but as I said, I don’t believe it’s a true alliance; he confessed to me that he disapproved of their recent actions. Knowing the Gauss Project, I don’t think the relationship will last. Mieux’s a businessman, Mr. President, and as such, he views war as an impediment on progress – so you can rest assured he won’t take arms against us.”

Adams wiped his sweating brow and exhaled. “Over.”

Sutler listened and nodded along, what did it matter really?.

"Fine, if you see Miuex before you leave tell him I'll sign his rag, once I've given it a full once over but in all possibilities I'll sign it. He has no ties to these people? Good, I'd sooner save the firepower than spend it on him should he loose his senses, he seemed an objective man so I too see no reason how he could harm us. I'll examine the terms when I recieve the paper, keep me informed and stay in touch. Busy day ahead, planning some construction and refurbishment to the bunker, make the place seem a little more... homely, we've a lot of stuff from the Vault. Over and out."

OOC: Better :D

Alexander Scalatti

The verti-bird kept doing circles around Arcadia.

"Yep, I am 100% percent sure its the GP. Whatever they want, say no. They only want power." Alex tipped his fedora and took another sip of abisinthe. "If you don't like any part of the deal, we can change it."

Mieux read over the contract, and was a little disgruntled at the directors unexpected arrival, hovering over Arcadia. He cocked an eyebrow and said to Alex in an unconcerned tone, "Relax, I'm willing to do business, but just so we're clear, I have shaky ties with the Enclave, and just to prevent ruffling their feathers, if you have Super Mutants, they must stay OUTSIDE the city. But before I sign this, let's handle this unexpected arrival shall we?" He walked over to the wall of screens with two giant supercomputers on the left and right wall and keyboard at it's center. Mieux turned on the radio signal and radioed the Vertibird, his voice slightly unconcerned. "Yes Director? I do hope you have good reason for just fluttering into my airspace unexpected. Is there something I can do for you?"

Director William Snowe

William picked up the radio with a grin. "I'll make it really simple for you Mr. Mieux. A full fledged alliance. The war with the Federation has drastically reduced food. Everything else, we have a lot of. We're getting only a 3% surplus which isn't enough to sustain a growing population after the slaves have been freed." He was interrupted by a message from the Vertibird. "Positive ID, it's Scalatti."

"And you can tell your Bridgeport Representative Mr. Scalatti that I give my regards...send me up. If Alex relinquished his weapons, my escorts and I will also relinquish our weapons."

Of course, the personal guard was trained specifically how to fight without weapons. William would be protected no matter what happened.

Mieux, leerious and suspicious, answered politely, "Mr. Williams, our contracts still stand, I still trade fresh food with you. If food is your problem, I'll send a 25% increase. As well, Mr. Scalatti and his new settlement, will be given official pardons by the GP for past transgressions against your rule. In return, they trade their food at a 35% discounted rate tax free with New Manhattan. Is this fair? Before you answer, I understand the war and all that has happened in New Manhattan, I remained neutral, hindering nor aiding you. But think Mr. Williams, forgiving them is a small price to pay for a deep discount on fresh unirradiated crops. Don't be a fool here, put aside your pride, and Manhattan can flourish, hold your stubborn grudge, and Manhattan starves." Mieux was in all truths willing to do business with Williams, but to let him or any of his soldiers into his city was not something he could trust given recent events. But nonetheless, he was hoping Williams would accept the overly fair offer. He hoped this would be enough to settle things peacefully.

Director William Snowe

William thought for a moment before the Vertibird pilot listened in and held his finger to the fire button. "Sir, my finger is on the button. Will you do it?"

He sighed and looked at the options. On one end was Mieux with a so far, not so dangerous place but New Manhattan was his kingdom and for Phase 4 to work, he'd need all of the people's support and he has it. On the other end, if William were to attack Arcadia, Mieux would be knocked out of the game forever...but popular support will collapse.

William shook his head. "Disarm missiles and head home. I had enough of this city." He opened his second radio channel to Justin. "You got yourself a deal. We will give you a second Vertibird for your troubles."

Mieux, playing it cool, politely bid farewell to Williams. When he got off the radio, he sighed in heavy relief. "Oh lord." It was the tensest moment he had yet faced, turning to Alex, he had a childish smirk of relief on his face. "You owe me Mr. Scallati, I just saved both our butts AND I got you a pardon so now you won't be shot on sight, but I wouldnt recommend you entering New Manhattan." He gave a light chuckle. "See, THIS is how I make friends. I help you, you help me, bonds are forged."

Alex chuckled a bit. "Thanks for saving my ass back there. I have no intention of entering New Manhattan anytime soon."

Alex reached over and took the document, then he handed Justin a second. "Sign this second one so that we both have a copy." Alex yawned at looked at the time. Damn, 9:00 PM. "Um, Justin, can I stay your hotel for a night. I have 1000 caps on me."

Lyn Grave

Lyn watched as the deathclaws returned from their hunt. Most of them carried at least one carcass, with a few even hauling two. The piled the remainder of their hunt neatly in front of Lyn. There was a fair assortment, which consisted mostly of brahmin and molerats. Lyn nodded, then located the megaphone Alex had used earlier. "Attention Bridgeport citizens, anyone with experience in hunting or butchering, come to the gate, and bring knives." Lyn returned the megaphone to where it was laying, and waited for people to gather. Lyn also noted that the mirelurks were starting to bring in a steady supply of fish. Within a few minutes, a group of people, with even a few super mutants, had assembled. Lyn pointed out the pile of carcasses, and they immediately got to work cutting up the meat. Lyn helped package the meat and move it to storage. It was getting dark out by the time all the cuts of meat and fish were packed away. Most of the deathclaws were sleeping soundly, with a few keeping watch. The mirelurks were at a similar point. Wonder if anyone has some whiskey around here? Lyn spotted a campfire a few people had set up, and moved in to take a seat around it. The people had prepared food, and had brought plenty of alcohol. Without waiting for approval, Lyn helped herself to a bottle of whiskey and a brahmin steak.

He signed the papers unarguingly, then, with a simple shrug, "This is something I've never done before, but, I'll let you stay in the guest bedroom here in the Penthouse free of charge, but I live alone up here, isn't like it's of any use to me, nor anyone else." He took Alex down a hall to the spare room in the Penthouse.

He opened the white double doors engraved in silver lining, "This, will be your room." He stood in the hall to let Alex pass and enter the room, the room was beautiful, white marble floors and onyx pillars on the walls, a plush queen sized bed with satin sheets toned in a deep rich crimson tone. Off to the side was a little sitting area with a couch and two chairs around a small table and a television in the corner. In the center of the room was a gold chandelier "Oh and er, the door on the left wall is the bathroom. Have a pleasant evening Mr. Scalatti." Mieux said, walking away, his dress shoes clicking on the mahogany floors of the hall and leaving Alex to his own devices.

"Thanks Justin." Alex said as Justin left the penthouse. It was amazing. It was more ornate than anything Alex had ever laid his eyes upon.

Alex went into the bathroom. changed into his swimsuit, and walked over to the hot tub. He turned on the water. It took about a minute to heat, but when it did, it was the perfect temperature. Alex waded in, found a nice spot, and relaxed in the tub.

"Now this is life."
