360 Asian Version Not Available?

Post » Mon Mar 14, 2011 2:55 pm

This is just a heads-up to the people at Bethesda. I would like to pre-order Brink, but there is still no listing for an Asian version (though there is for Rage and Skyrim).

http://www.play-asia.com/paOScore/19-71-99-49-en-15-skyrim.html
http://www.play-asia.com/paOScore/19-71-99-49-en-15-Rage.html
http://www.play-asia.com/paOScore/19-71-99-49-en-15-Brink.html

Play Asia is not the only store that sells Asian versions of games, but I have no access to other stores in Hong Kong etc. So, I don't even know if it is available at other places or not. Seeing, however, that Skyrim and Rage are already available for pre-order, I figure Bethesda must have some communications with Play Asia.

I would like to order 4 copies of Brink (360 Asian Version - English with Chinese Subtitles).

Thank you for your help.

Brink is being developed by Splash Damage, not Bethesda, and primarily for Europe and North America.

Not sure about the chances of there being an Asian version. Sorry.

Do you mind if I ask how you know this? (There is no indication in your profile that you are affiliated with Bethesda.)

I find it very odd that there would be Asian versions of their other games, but not of Brink.

Also, to the others above, thank you for your input. The regulars over in the Splash Damage forums said the opposite "check with the publisher".

I agree with them. Usually, it is the publisher that is responsible for the marketing and ensuring that the retailers know of the game.

If there is no Asian version being released, will the games at least be region-free then, so that I can import and play the U.S. version on my J-360?

EDITED for clarification.

Who here said SD is the publisher?

Yes, I was responding to Crazyflake and Hulk Sloth. Let me state this again, I realize that Splash Damage is the developer and Bethesda is the publisher. If I have questions or comments about the game design, balance etc., I will probably be better off in the Splash Damage forums where the developers often answer questions personally. If on the other hand, I want to know where I can buy Brink, or what is happening with the marketing of the game, then the Bethesda forums are probably the more appropriate place to inquire. At least, it wouldn't be unreasonable to expect Bethesda employees to frequent their own forums.

My question is one for the publisher, and since they don't answer personal inquiries made to their "Contact" address on their http://www.gamesas.com/eng/contact.php, I figured I would try here.

Dunno about this; I would tell you to check with Splash Damage, but considering the responses you got last time, I'm not sure if they will answer this question.

You SHOULD be able to play an imported copy... as far as I know, the only barrier there is that depends on what languages are available and what languages you're fluent with.

Thanks, syniistr.

aaaahhh. I don't understand. Bethesda doesn't even think the game is worth publishing in the Asian format?

The Japanese edition will work on my 360s, but with the exchange, it will run me about 80 dollars U.S., when Skyrim is listed at 50 and Rage at 60. I wouldn't even mind the 80 dollar price tag, if it weren't that I had planned on buying a copy for each of us (4 total). That takes the price from $200 to $320.

That actually isn't even the worst of it. Often, titles published for Japan are 1. censored, 2. IP region filtered limiting who one can connect to for online gaming and 3. lack any sort of voice acting talent, aside from the fact that the menus will be filled with their awful katakana script.

I have been championing this game for over a year now - and instead of replying to my letter, Bethesda announces there will be no Chinese version over Twitter?!

My head spins. I have to step away from the keyboard now.

Yer Bethesda is only backing the game.

Afaik, the Publisher is responsible for localised versions, though.

I feel your pain, especially for the first point.

The third point can be easily explained, though: Far-eastern languages (Chinese, Japanese ...) are very different to European languages and it's not easy to have talking and facial movement synced perfectly.
