Install on different harddrive

Post » Mon Mar 14, 2011 7:48 pm

After playing New Vegas for some time now I just wanted to revisit the capital wasteland, so I just tried to install FO3 again, but I found out I cannot choose which harddrive to install it on. I have to install it on a different harddrive though, can this be done somehow?

Plus I also heard that if FO3 is installed on a different harddrive than the standard one there're problems with installing some of the addons. Tips on how to get my FO3 and addons installed properly on a different harddrive are highly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I'm going to assume you have the Steam version of Fallout 3? If thats that case then AFAIK it will only install on the harddrive that Steam is located on. I think there are some crazy ways to pull this off and get around it but they'd be over on the steam forums.

No, I got it on DVD. But it doesn't let me choose the drive to install it on though.

Sure it does, program installations always do. It would be really, really bad programming if they didn't allow for that. You're just not looking hard enough for the option.

I just looked again and it isn't there, unless it gives you the option after it already starts installing, but it should ask you where to install it before it starts installing, shouldn't it? I stopped the installation when it started.

I guess it would cause problems if I would just install it on the standard drive and then manually drag it to the other drive, wouldn't it? Otherwise I would try that.

The usual options you're given when installing a program is Custom and Express. Express will put it in the default location, you need to select Custom. Almost every program that I know of has those sort of options, though maybe using different names. It's pretty much just standard procedure these days. I know Fallout does because I have the game on my G: drive.

Thanks, that was the solution.

I never had to choose custom in order to decide where to install a game, that's why I chose Express.
