Dead Bodies in GECK

Post » Mon Mar 14, 2011 3:11 pm

I'm working on a vault mod and parts of it are destroyed, and i know that you can creat NPC's that are already dead, but i don't know how and if there is a way you can pose them when dead, in example propped up against a door. Thanks for looking

1. Make sure the NPC or creature you are using has 0 health.

2. Drag the NPC or creature to the render window to place it in the world.

3. Press the F4 key to 'see' the grabbable points on the body. The F4 key toggles the Collision Geometry on and off.

4. Click the havoc button and the body will fall to the ground. Do NOT unclick the havoc button until the body is in the correct position.

5. Press the left ALT + left CTRL keys and at the same time, left click your mouse pointer on one of the Collision Geometry zones on the body and drag that part around to position it.

If you miss clicking on a collision geometry zone, just move the mouse a bit and try again. If you grab a zone, the body will move about depending on how you move the mouse.

6. Once the body is in the position you want, you can unclick the havoc button and turn off Collision Geometry (F4)

You now have a body placed exactly the way you want.

Just a word of warning, though this is easy to do with Humans, with Ghouls and the skeletons it is incredibly hard to do, as they seem to not be liftable past about 3ft off the ground (like oblivion bodies) so positioning them can take hours (if you have OCD like me :P) and its much simpler and faster with people. So if you can, by any means always use human bodies when you need one.

Hey, did anybody ever try positioning a dead NPC and then try to replace it with a skeleton? I wonder if the replaced skeleton would keep the position of the original NPC?

That's a good question.

Im wondering if anyone's tried swapping out the dead alien mesh with a human mesh. You know, the dead alien from the crashed ship.. it's a totally havoc enabled static model, and not an npc at all... that would be completely helpful for dead body situations as well.

Yes definately. My nif-fu is sub-par for such a thing, but I've been slowly working myself up to attempting it.

It would take 5 seconds to do a replace.

On the toolbar, >Edit >Search & Replace...

You then replace the NPC with your skeleton object.

My guess is that it will not work right. Just my guess though.
