I presume the best method for adding flames to something like that would be a particle system. afaik the blender nif scripts will not export them.

You will have to find a particle system in a vanilla nif, if you know something in the vanilla game that has a similar effect use that. then you will want to build your grenade nif around that.

only saidenstorm has apparently managed to hack custom particle systems together. I couldn't begin to tell you how, cept that he uses max and exported them with the civ4 plugin. and then hex edited them

Not sure what else would be a good way to do flames.

well you can do what I would do, ie reapropriate a vanilla psystem. you pretty much can change any field/emitter variables... just that you won't start out knowing what translates to what unless you have played around with particles in your 3d modeller. so far for f3 I have edited 2 psystems for my own use..

Just out of curiosity, where are the Psystems defined for FO3? Is it a script based system, or is it a .nif property, or what?
I've done a fair amount of script-based havok particle setups before in other games, so I'm familiar with the workings.. Just wondering if I might be able to use that bit of know-how if it translates.

This is absolutely your best option, its easy and fast.

This is not an easy route, but for the effects I wanted to create it was the only option as the things I did in SSP are impossible to do with Bethesda Particle Systems.

most particle systems are nif related.

there are effect shaders though. tbh I've only ever played with 1 ever. so I'm no expert of milking them for what they are worth...
