Display damage per hit?

Post » Mon Mar 14, 2011 7:18 pm

So i saw in a trailer that everytime yout hit an enemy the amount of exp that you gain pops up. ive been thinking...wouldnt it be better if you saw how much damage you dealt instead? Think about it, in this game there are different body types and different buffs for both guns and armor. A single gun can do much different damage depending on the circumstances. Me being a numbers nerd, I would like this alot better since i could calculate much accurately what gun is more suited for me. (yes kinda like a borderlands thing)

That's technically the point of the XP markers. The more +1XP markers that fly out, the more damage you're doing.

And you do see a health bar when you are shooting at someone.

It's like the others said: a healthbar will show how much health they have. Tbh I dislike this system, but it's not a gamebreaker for me.

Same here.

I wonder if health-buffs are visible, though.

Agreed, I don't like the system....only because if you've got 2-3 guys on screen clustered together, it'll be a cluster f of numbers popping up on screen. You start shooting and hitting multiple enemies at the same time(if they're clustered together) and you see lots of +1 all over the place cluttering up the screen. You've got the health bar, they should only show points after an opponent dies. then show whatever pt amount for the kill and/or assist points and/or damage points.(like most other fps) It's actually almost insulting that they think we need to be spoon fed "rewards" like having +1 pop up everywhere to make us feel good. Again, not a deal breaker for me...just a minor complaint.

I apologize if I've misunderstood something, but I think that the PAX 2010 video is the most recent gameplay footage we have, and in it the xp gets collected under the crosshair. The xp doesn't pop out of the enemy.

You're right, not as bad as I (mis) remembered from watching the video. Still though, I'd rather not have it pop up with every round that causes damage. But like I said earlier, it's by no means a deal-breaker for me. I'm still looking forward to this game.

whether i like it or not, i feel like that health bar is kinda needed. in this fps its takes more bullets compared to other games to kill people, and with all the damage variations (buffs, body size) its only reasonable that we have some kind of indicator as to how much damage we've dealt or how much is left.

It actually (as far as I know) is. The funny thing about getting no new footage for so long, certain clips are just reused over and over again.

There is this video, which was posted just over week ago, and in 1:09 and 1:20 you can see the shortest glimpse of the HUD as it is now, and it resembles more the PAX video than the other versions.

EDIT: the footage they show has mostly the old HUD, but the version the girl is playing it's clearly more like in PAX 2010.

I believe (from vids) that it is all incorparated into the enemies oen life bar above their heads. not sure if they get harder to kill with a life buff by taking less damage or their life bar gets bigger.

Agreed, I only want to see exp when I kill, nto if I do damage, the system seems a little weird, but itll be fine.

Doesn't Borderlands display health bars?

If it does then I must have registered it subconsciously, since after months I can't even remember. If so then I don't think we have anything to worry about. Heck, I actually support it. It's gonna be nice to know exactly how much damage these "support" light rifles do.
