Drunkeness

Post » Mon Mar 14, 2011 10:32 pm

In Oblivion, when you drank Beer or Mead or another alcoholic drink you would never really be drunk. Your intelligence is drained a bit, you loose a bit of your will power, but it really dosn't feel any different. When you are drunk in Skyrim, your screen should apear blurry and your character should be falling and tripping all over the place. Just take GTA IV for example. In GTA IV when you get drunk, that's what it should be like in Skyrim.

I think there should be a overwhelming motion blur perhaps a bit of slow camera shake. But to fall everywhere quite frankly would be a pain especially if played in the FP View.

Yeah, I kind of agree with this. But having your character tripping sometimes would also work. I think that your character should mostley stumble, somewhat loosing his balance, and sometimes tripping.

I want the option for drunken singing by npcs and your own character. Also, drunkness should effect dialogue.

RDR handled drink pretty well. It was a gimmick, but it didn't pretend to be more than that and it was over quickly.

RDR is great in that respect. Getting drunk, barely able to stand, than accidentally slamming your head into the tavern window and breaking it is hilarious.

How about they don't take things from fallout and go a new direction. The Drunk NPC's in NV just looked silly because they would walk in the animation, then stop for like a second, then go back to walking in the animation. It looked poorly done to be honest. I would rather them do something like in RDR, that was pretty funny.

I could care less about stumbling around while drunk, but I would like slightly stronger visual effects from drinking alcohol, like blurred vision and lack of control of the character.

More importantly that those relatively shallow effects though, are the social effects of drinking. I want there to be a real REASON to drink. Maybe it opens up unique dialog options with certain NPCs if you are under the influence while you speak to them. Maybe if you go into bars and socialize with the regulars, they will trust you more and you'll gain a disposition boost with that town, and perhaps even access to a new quest or two. Alcohol should also have some practical effects. In real life, it can dull pain and kill germs, so maybe if you are diseased or wounded, drinking alcohol can give you a temporary boost to help tide you over until you can reach somewhere to rest and heal up. I feel like alcohol is a pretty important piece of culture in many areas, and Skyrim seems like one of those places. Maybe instead of bribing someone with 50 coins to learn some new information, you could present them with a bottle of alcohol valued at 30 coins and still receive the same information. Basically, find ways to make alcohol socially relevant, and it becomes much more useful in the game. I don't think I drank a single bottle of alcohol in Oblivion because there was absolutely no reason to do it, so I just sold them all.

They also have this in THE WITCHER which felt very natural and unobtrusive. Would be great to see something similar in TES V SKYRIM.

The idea of booze opening up dialogue options sounds like it could be a lot of fun :foodndrink:

haha, would have been so awesome if, (when piss drunk) your character gets out of hand, for instance hits an npc without the player clicking on the attack button xD
does random stuff without the player's permission. This would have atleast given me something to laugh att, and in real life do we not say and do stupid stuff when drunk? this would be another way
of adding some humor to the game.

 To those thinking it be annoying: don't drink that much. Take the consequences just as in real life. The Witcher got this right, but they should do even more with it.

I also agree with Jack-in-Irons. That's the way!

It'd be funny if the character holucinated while drunk and thought hesaw a mountain giant churning butter outside of the window or something ridicules... It should last hours and if you get to drunk and out of hand townguards will arrest you for unorderly conduct or something...
